Tyres

Having passed my MoT, with a bit of pleading and fluttering of the old eyelashes (if only it was that easy!) I do desperately need 4 new tyres... I have been looking at the ULTRAC SESSANTA 255/35R19Y
Vredesteins, having read up on here, but surely I need runflats?
When I look at a 255/35/19 runflat on
www.mytyres.co.uk they don't seem to list any?
Surely I can't not have them, as there is no spare?
Please advise....you've seen the roads today, and I have 4 on the limit!

The RS4's never came with run flats from the factory, you have you can of gunk in the boot for that and a compressor so go for the normal tyres.
Ultrac Sessantas are a decent tyre and far better than the OEM Conti SC3's it came with, but all the same I'll be going back to Goodyear F1 Assymetrics after my Sessantas are finished.

Ah, I thought they were run flats....
I'm going to give the Ultracs a go I think...

Hi mate, just wondered how you'd rate the two tyres side-by-side having driven on both and why you want to go back to the F1s?
Reason I ask is because I myself currently have the Ultracs, and whilst excellent, might give the F1s a go next time around just to see what they are like (assuming they aren't massively dearer than the Ultracs at that time..)
Cheers,
Mo.

I loved the F1s Asymmetrics when I had them fitted, a massive improvement over the P-zeros, unfortunately I have only used these to model of tyres on the RS.

Like said the Ultracs are a good tyre and definitely value for money, however I do find that they are not as grippy as the F1's. Certain roundabouts I knew what speed I could get out of the F1's and the ultracs squeel a few mph less than the F1's adnd give up traction as well. Roads noise with them is more intrusive and on greasy surfaces the Ultracs don't bite as well. Plus I had huge balancing issues with them until I had them force matched. The one thing I am still testing is longevity, they are doing well but I got 19,000 miles our of my F1's so the Ultracs are going to have a tough job on their hands.
Far the sake of an extra £50 for 4x F1's I'll be going back to them.

Cool. Thanks for that.
I must admit, the Ultracs will 'let go' on greasy roundabouts if you are too aggressive, but it is very predictable and controllable. But still, I might go for the F1s next time around just so that I can compare the two for myself.

I ran 255 P-zeros, 275 F1s ass & 275 sasantas on my car. I'd rate them:
1. F1s
2. Sasantas
distant 3rd. P-zeros
the F1's are a great tyre. I'd also recommend going with a 275 size as they are cheaper and give lots more alloy protection without any detriment to the handling..

That's nearly £25 per tyre more than the Ultrac 275's. Amazing.

There is no way I'm changing to a different tyre profile with this car. I've run stretched tyres etc on golfs, but I'm not messing with the 4wd system on a 400bhp RS4 by messing with profiles.
I know it's been covered before, but I'm sticking with manufacturer's recommendations on this one...

Changing all 4 tyres doesn't mess with the 4wd system; changing 1, 2 or 3 only
could, but only if the turns per mile were significantly different.
You're missing a good tyre (and much better rim protection) for an unfounded fear.
