Just driven RS Focus !!!

Post by victor2vt » Fri Nov 20, 2009 5:46 pm

Got to say  unbelievable acceleration and very smooth and quiet,

crying out for a noisier exhaust !!!

Was only in it for a very short time, it was a sold car, but very impressed

with interior, seats very comfortable and the car looks the bus in white, in

green the rear spoiler looks OTT

Hell of a car for the money, a tuner's dream, looks good from every

angle, and better than the golf IMO

If you get the chance to test drive one, grab it with both hands

There's a 5 month waiting list already !!

Anyone else had a drive ?

Seen a few on the road and they do look cool - but maybe for the more younger half of population.
Should be pretty tunable but what with recent crap weather, do you think the power will get to the roads.
Wish ford had bit the bullet and made it 4wd.

6 seconds to 60, lots of axle tramping, chavvy image..

whats to like?

would give the same money for a scirocco/golf r or an s3 and tune that instead.

i know 3 people who bought these new and sold them straight away due to the embarrassment of driving them day to day and the unwanted attention they got.

in a word....poo.

they are not that quick.

and they drive like a speedboat.

one of those cars that a bit of fun, but not great..an automotive slag if you will...good for a quick blast, but not one for taking home to yer mum.

Better to get and ST and giev it to Montune to fettle; more power and torque than an RS, even a remaspped one and more discreet.

They do look decent but no space for the kids and their requisite gear so the RS is staying.

I sold its "evil cousin" a Mazdaspeed3 because I couldn't stand the torque steer and cheezy interior. The seats were OK. I'm a little too old for a RS unless its a Cosworth 4X4.

This is my take on the new focus RS -

Pros -

(1) aggressive looks
(2) limited numbers / exclusivity
(3) nice exhaust note

Cons -

(1) too expensive
(2) attracts far to much negative attention (chavs.. boy racers)
(3) doesn't seem that fast on paper (standard S3 quicker in a straight line than it despite less power), mountune ST faster in Evo tests in a straight line and 5th/6th in gear times
(4) FWD, being praised but how well will it handle the GGR 340-360 bhp tunes, esp if the weather gets wet
(5) Ford interior

Too many negatives for me, had a lot of hatchbacks before the RS4 (five of them!) and got sick of them, think I've grown out of them to be honest and they arent quick enough for me. Am sure it would be fun to drive on a nice twisty country lane.

Have you tried a direct comparison Focus RS vs RS4 Plodwyn? I had one nearly up my chuff a couple of weeks ago and along some greasy back roads from East Holywell to Earsdon for those who know the North East it really struggled with tramlining and getting its power down out of the bends and didn't look completely composed under braking on uneven surfaces. I'm sure there is an element of the driver, then I'm no Stig but fair play it has plenty of grunt in the straights. By the time I had arrived outside Earsden I'd pulled 30 metres on the Focus but lets face it, anything off a track and there isn't much in it between a hot hatch and anything up to a Porsche 911 Turbo by the time you factor in traffic and traffic lights.

Expressing your personal opinion on these sites is what a forum is all about and it doesn't make you an *rs*hole.
However posting a comment like yours may have a different outcome...
