insurance advice urgently needed, pretty please

Post by kay » Thu Nov 12, 2009 8:08 pm

Im struggling to get good prices for my newly purchased RS4 and need some personal opinions tonight.
41yrs, 9yrs NCD, one fault claim, no points, garaged, no tracker, professional, limited to 5k miles/yr.
My modded subaru P1 was £900 with £300 xs.
RS4 around £2k with around £500 xs.
Have tried noel daz, keith michaels, chris knott, confused.com, gocompare.com, quotezone, connections.
Best i have come up with is with A-plan...£1600 with £500 xs plus mod friendly (will want to improve stance via lowering at some point)
My dilemma is with this and my my other find via comparison site: with xs direct insurance company through performance direct or several other intermediaries...£1k with £3k XS and no need for NCD (which can thus be used on a 2nd car which i would ideally like to keep as a runaround and for my daughter to drive ).
B7 RS4 saloon Sprint blue facelifted. BMC AIR FILTER, 8mm REAR SPACERS, H &R lowering springs, NON RES VALVED MILTEK...(current)
Subaru Impreza P1 modded..330bhp (4yrs)
Merc 190e 2.5 16v cosworth..black with full black heated leather recaros ..200bhp (5yrs)
Cavalier 2.0 Sri 130bhp (5yrs)

Hadnt finished typing but ran out of space, how come?? Anyway, might get A-plan down to £1500 with £750 XS. Just thinking about pros and cons and doing a bit of maths in event of a claim.

That must have been one hell of an accident or you live in Brixton? I'm with MoreThan on the following.

36 years old + Partner (30 something)
9 years protected NCD
2 non fault accidents in last 5 years
0 points (9 points for partner)
Class I business usage for 11,000 miles
06 Avant, no tracker
Hotchkis sway bars, Goodridge hoses and x-pipe declared.
£740 premium, £500 excess
NE30 postcode

I've kept away from lowering the car at present or remapping etc, it is plenty quick enough at present. Is it maybe because of your other cars or have you sold them on?

The quotes do seem a bit nuts! I'm 29 and have my premium just over £1k with £300 XS (6 years NCD) with Privilege. I had to do a good shop around though! But do try them.

I'd keep looking if I were you. Best of luck.

I'm 38yrs, 10 years NCD, no points (touching wood as I write), parked on street in Berkshire.

15k miles p.a 10k of which are business level 1 (all business use).

Wife's on it too with same as me re: points etc.

I pay £600 with Esure with £500 NCD...I couldn't believe it...

Kay, I think you're being stung by the post-code lottery that seems to affect so many things these days.

Dom - very amusing!

Similar to Hody7869's details, but different insurer. I use swiftcover - £589 with protected NCD. They also let me use my NCD against an additional car.
Everyone is unique, just like you and me.

Oh believe me they are are all self inflicted points for my partner, 3x SP30's! A bit of irony though as the first was when she found out she was pregnant with our first daughter; second set late for 20 week scan and 3rd set when she found out she was pregnant with our 2nd daughter.

Makes for interesting conversations though as she believes I drive like a loon far too fast yet I'm the one with a clean licence for the last 7 years (touch wood!).

Gosh, u guys have got some competitive premiums there. The comparison sites have covered a lot of the insurers out there but i think the above mentioned ones may not have been in there so will be worth trying. BUT, what are peoples opinions on a £3k excess with a cheaper premium??

You might as well just get third party cover and do any repairs yourself !
