Hi, sorry to drag this one up again but I am not sure where the balance of opinion sits. I am looking to extend my warranty from the end of November, there must be a few of you saloon owning chaps who are close to having had 12 months out of your extended warranties – on balance do you guys think you got your monies worth? I only do about 8k a year and am thinking it may be worth the gamble not to pay the 1200 notes. My car was recently serviced by those fine chaps at Camberley and although it had half the suspension replaced that would have been covered for 5 years anyway. The only other warranty work was a new airbox. I suppose the help for resale is always an issue but I’m not looking to sell for ages.

Your thoughts are much appreciated.

At that sort of mileage it might be worth risking it, I am doing about 15k a year so I got mine extended, I like it for the peace of mind more than anything though I have had a few annoying things done but only because I could really, like a rattle on my drivers door handle and I got the back of my seats redone as they were coming away, also had the chrome replaced on my doors due to marking.

My car's coming up to 3 years old and I've just renewed the warranty on it - mainly for the reason you mentioned. Resale.
I think I'll be selling the car next year and I imagine it will be easier with the approved warranty in place.

I'm in the middle of my extended warranty and they are just about to replace the front shocks and DRC valves under the extended 12 month warranty which I though was really strange, thought they might kick it back to Audi on the '5-year' deal but they didn't. Having said that, my rear brake disc's are warped or high-spotted and the guys at the garage think I've more chance of getting a BJ of the pope than getting the extended warranty to pay. They said that Audi wouldn't pay after the 1st year or 12k on a new car so I don't have chance. Apparently they would pay for disc's if a 'total failure' occurred! Think I'd have to push them for the funeral costs too!!

I only do about 5k a year so have taken the risk and not opted for the extended warranty. I will let you know whether it payed off or not in June.

are people more scared to drive it hard if its not warrantied?

apart from resale, surely its worth having so you can give it the beans without the worry of something going wrong?

I drive it how I feel, the fact I don't have warranty doesn't enter my mind, if something goes i'll deal with it. The reason I do so few miles is that I don't use it during the day Mon-Fri.

im lookingto upgarde my '6 to a '4 in the near future (my '6 is in its last possible 12 months of Audi warranty due ot mileage) and i'll only consider cars under Audi warranty.....call me shortsighted, call me a tw*t, but that will be a key decider, as first thing i'll do is get a MRC health check and anything they find, take it to Audi, all replaced and hey presto I know I've got a perfect car and peace of mind going forward...

I haven't gone for a warranty and will still do anything between 11 and 15k miles per year. Still drive it like I stole it and most items that go pop aren't on warranty, wear and tear items.

If somethign goes wrong I'll fix it. Likelihood is that I'll trade it in at a dealer some day so I doubt warranty will be such an issue in those circumstances. Then again, I may yet keep the RS4 for good and buy a second car.

I am looking into VW warranty, its £600 and by all accounts covers everything the Audi one does.. mine isnt up until the end of the year though..

Just had a quote from Warrantywise - a little over £1000 for 2 years. All seems OK with good cover. Has anybody used these? Adveretised by Quentin Wilson - a right t**t I think!!!

I only do 5k miles a year, I went for the Extended warranty £1250, good job I did as my clutch hose went, and needed a new flywheel, clutch and pipe hose, did not help that it went in France. all recovered on Audi roadside too. So I made my money back all ready. however I did have a feeling that my clutch would go as it is a early 2006 model and these are prone to going. IMHO

Have you managed to find anything out about taking out the VW one? How does it work in terms of purchasing it? Will your local Audi stealer accept it? £600 for a like for like v's Audi £1200 almost seem too good?

Was told when I bought my car (from Audi) that another years warranty would be "around??" the 700 quid mark if I went back to same dealer. Asked at my local dealer and they want 1200 quid. Seems a bit strange. Also wondering is it worth it?
