Do you have a button with a picture of a car with an open boot on your key fob?

Press and hold button and bootlid should pop open. Only seems to work if you have already pressed the door unlock button twice to unlock all doors.

Press unlock twice within 5 seconds, then hold the boot button until it opens.

Ah top! That'll be handy when I've got my hands full of shopping on the way back from the supermarket in the winter and don't want to put it all down in a puddle while I manually open the bootlid!

There should also be a boot release button tucked away at the back of the door pocket. Handy when you are getting out of the car to go and take something out of the boot.

With the car fully locked, all i need to do is press and hold the boot lid button on the remote to open it,close it and its locked again.

Same here - car can be fully locked, but if I press and hold the centre button the boot opens automatically. Without setting off or need to re-set the alarm. A very handy feature which I use all the time.

Unlike some A4's, the boot on mine only unlocks, it doesn't automatically fully open. Should it or was this an option?

It's an option though for 50k it should have been a given. It's great when you have your hands full of kit.

just remember to keep your keys in your hand when you chuck the shopping in otherwise you can lock yourself out!! I learnt the hard way.
Had to call my wife to bring me the spare set of keys.

are some of you talking about the boot fully opening all by itself, or jus unlocking and "popping" up slightly?

Not so - the default is to pop slightly, the extra option fully opens the boot lid without having to lift in anyway.
