RS4 Private purchase advice

Hi,

Have finally found what I think is the right rs4 for me

However, it has run out of warranty, usually all my cars have had some type, either from main dealer or from a garage. This one is from a private seller, the car has 8k miles on it and is an 06, been serviced on time and each year and looks to be in great condition.

Could I ask the seller / Audi to do a check on the car before i part with my hard earned cash? Don't want to be driving it home for something to go wrong!

How would you go around by it? I notice the Audi extended warranty is approx £1200 / year, can I get a 2 or 3 year warranty?

Thanks for your help

James

James, if the car has a full Audi Dealer Service History I think you should be okay to put an extended Audi warranty on it - if the car is now older than 3 years old they may require an inspection first. I'm sure Audi would be pleased to take your money for 2 or 3 years cover within any age/mileage limits :) - not sure whether a mult-year buy brings the annual price down?

My understading of the Audi system is that they will charge you for a pre issue of extebded warranty inspection now the car is out of warranty to diagnose and record if there are any faults prior to issuing you a warranty that does not cover those items unless you also pay for them to be reticfied first. The inspection is IIRC 1/2 to a full day at standard labour rates and then the warranty charge so you first year be prepared to pay £2K and you might get some change.

Hi,

Thanks for your replies

My main concern is that the car could develop an issue soon after purchase, the warranty is something that I am going to go ahead with anyway as it does have a full Audi service history.

Would a full RAC vehicle inspection suffice before purchase in your opinion, are they likely to be familiar with this type of car and some common faults? Anyone done this?

Thanks,
James

Dont bother with RAC/AA. Take it to a specialist indie to check over rather...

Car is in Yorkshire area, I am in Surrey..

Any recommendations for a well known specialist?

Would the local Audi dealer do a full inspection? Idea of cost?

Audi Coulsdon just quoted £2700 for 12 months cover, excluding 1st inspection  Don't mind paying a fair amount, but that is excessive!

3rd Party warranty it may have to be..

Was that an actual Audi policy or a third party warranty company that the dealership are acting as agents for?

I believe it is an Audi policy. When I questioned the cost, thinking it was approx £1700 they told me that was for a car with an existing warranty which has not expired..

Thanks for the number; called them, as the warranty expired in 04/09 I need to go to the dealer direct

by bye bye
I recently bought a Dec 06 RS4 and the supplying dealer, not Audi, had it inspected by Southampton Audi and extended the warranty until Dec 2010 at a cost of £1200.

Depending on where in Surrey you are, you might want to give Camberley Audi (Rob) a ring - well worth the journey if they give a decent quote
