exhaust - cutting our mid silencer and replacing with pipes

Has anyone cut away their large mid silencers and replaced instead with straight through pipes - i.e. leaving the rear silencer and cats untouched.
On having my car up on our ramps would look like a fairly easy job to do, a lot less expense than a catback, and might release some of the v8 glory
Anyone tried this and if so what were the results?

Grazer, have a look at this;
http://www.rs246.com/index.php?name=PNp ... hlight=aas
AAS still have the design available should you want to contact them for them to fabricate one and send it to you unless you want to make a trip to Newcastle when they would do the job in a day.
The sound may not be the same as a full exhaust set up but not far off and this way you retain external OEM look plus use of the valves and it is only circa £300 as opposed to a £thousand plus for a full set up.
Sounded good but adding a BMC air filter has helped it sound even better.

we're in Loughborough, just off J23 of the M1.
We'll get one of these fitted up to our car first to check fitment then assuming all is good, will post up some details

I replaced mid silencers with straight pipes and it`s great. No drone and not too loud.
