Sat Nav postcodes?

Post by simonhill » Thu Sep 17, 2009 2:25 pm

Surely in this day and age, the Sat Nav would have an update available for full postcodes? It really is the one thing on the car car that annoys me - a lot. If a £150 Tomtom can do it, surely Audi can sort it out? Anyone looked into this. Apologies if it;s been asked a zillion times before

I asked about it not so long back and it seems not. I agree with you though it is very annoying, caught me out just yesterday.

AFAIK none of the Audi OE sat nav systems have full postcode entry - not 100% sure about the new MMI 3G though.

Full postcode entry does have it's downside. Our post code covers a two mile road, but sat navs always have it centered on a hosue a mile past ours! With full PC entry, delivery drivers just zoom past then return to the depot because the address "is wrong". :x
At least without full PC entry they actually make some attempt to look for the fecking house sign!

Indeed, but for 99% postcodes are enough to be door to door. The delivery guys are just being lazy berks.

TBH it needs to be a combination of house name/number and postcode for delivery point information (co-ordinates). This data is available, they just don't want to pay for it.

I for one would love to see an RNS-E dvd upgrade to include full postcodes. :)

I've just come out of a 2008 R32 and into a 2006 RS4. The RNS510 in the Golf was the boll*cks compared to what I have now.

OK, it didn't havefull postcodes but touchscreen, a 30Gb HDD(12Gb for Nav Info) and a proper resolution screen.

I'd read on a forum (www.navi.com) that you can easily updae it with the latest spec. info, likely to soon include full postcodes, just by downloading andriping to a DVD.

Oh well, the 150+ horse make that easier to take I suppose :)

That's incorrect information.

I've just installed the latest 2010 RNS-E (different hardware) into my RS4 - and it still doesn't accept full postcodes and it's a hardware change NOT just a software change anyway.

Just about to make the leap from GTI ED30 and I know I'm really going to miss the RNS510, especially as I have the media data cable so the ipod function is superb, but as you say the extra horses (even more in my case) not to mention the quattro, should distract me.

On the sat nav front audi has reduced the DVD price for the 2 disks from 250 to 150. no post codes yet tho.
