It looks like I need new discs and pads, at least on the front. Has anyone already had this done and what price should I be expecting?

How much for the pads as well? My light has just come on as well. I think I'll be in for discs too as Audi told me they were under thickness at the last pad change. (Still funny that I checked them with our micrometers and found them above the min thickness, and the Audi technician was just judgeing it by eye!!)

Are they easy to change?

The pads are not specially cheap @ £220 a set.

They are fairly easy to change, as long as you know what you are doing !

Had mine done 2 months ago in Reading and paid £850. Quotes seem to vary between £600 and £1400  There is a previous post on this that may help - try a search? Cheers

I paid just over £1000 from a stealer at the beginning of the year for front discs and pads.

Saw a thread recently about having discs skimmed, seems a much cheaper option. Is this a recommended option?

I'll let you know in a couple of days.

The reason I say this is that I am still getting brake judder at present but through the wheel which would tend to suggest that the front disks have warped now but I want to have both front and rear checked out just to be sure.

Ok, so the rears after 500 miles of driving post skimming are good an no vibration, the vibration I have is coming from the fronts. I have had a set of fronts skimmed and machined and they are going on next Saturday so will let you know how they feel when they are on but so far skimming os a cost effective option. The disks are so thick that the people who did my fronts suggest they could be safely done up to 4 times without breaching minimum tolerance.
