hi,

recently i have found a problem with my clutch.
when driving like a normal person - the clutch is absolutely fine.
however when having a good go at my car and going into racing mode (even just for 10 - 15 seconds) the clutch becomes overly stiff and if i was to stop at a set of lights and then drive off normal then clutch kind of sticks and i end up stalling.

the car has done 42,000 miles - it has been well looked after, regularly serviced and oil checked.
this problem has been occuring for the past 3000 - 4000 miles. it isnt getting worse but its there.
at first i thought it was just me as i hadnt driven the car for 6 weeks (broken leg) but am sure there is actually something wrong.

anyone else had such problems???

I had the same problem so Audi changed the following before replacing the clutch assembly under warranty

Vacuum hose
Master cylinder
Slave cylinder

The pedal would stick to the floor when you give it the beans, then go back to normal when you drove like an old man.

As its a hydraulic clutch, it is most likely then Hydraulic hose (namely some of those component mentioned above, Audi did a upgraded hose, the early 06 models was prone to leaking. If you look under your car you may see it leaking, almost like a waxy oil, it may also be dripping under the body work and around the transmission. The symptoms you describe sound like this, it wont be long before you will not be able to select gar (only with engine off) I would take it in ASAP. This happened to me only a few weeks ago and I got a new flywheel, clutch and associated parts, all done under extended warranty.

They increased the diameter of the hose, it wasn't large enough to allow the hydraulic fluid to return rapidly enough when you let the clutch out rapidly so it made the clutch slip.

As a new owner of a earlyish 2006 car would it be worth while upgrading the pipe you spoke about, or if it drives fine is it likely that someone would have already replaced it?

Affected cars SHOULD have had the pipe replaced when they were taken to a dealer for sevice/repair.

If it drives fine when you do a "full on" start then I would reckon that it's been changed (if it needed it).

I suppose you could ask a friendly technician to look up the affected VIN numbers?

No recalls are ONLY done for safety issues and are coordinated by VOSA, this was a service campaign handled entirely by Audi.

OK, so would we have had a letter through the door then, like they did with the battery clamp housing? interesting point, I never knew this.

Mgbruce - yup u have it right with the pedal sticking when giving it the beans.
spoke to audi booked in for a check in just under 2 weeks so will wait and see what they say

i had a new gearbox fitted, 2 weeks later the car did not go in gear only when switched off, i took it back to them yesterday and they say its the clutch. these idiots didnt check the clutch when fitting a new gearbox. Now they are threatening to charge me if the have to strip the gearbox again. i have refused as the clutch was new only 3 months old. I gave them a receipt.
The matter is still going on. i have printed out this web page with all the solutions and giving it to them tomorrow. lets see what happens
