How often do you get your RS4 serviced??

My car seems to be on a regular service interval of about 9000 miles. Anyone else on this??
I remember reading in EVO when the car came out it said something about it only needing servicing every 18-19,000 miles.
Is it cheaper to get the services at regular intervals of 9000 miles??

I've got mine on AVS, it's on 42K miles & has had 2 services to date at roughly every 18K miles. I do an oil change every 6K miles, but almost all my mileage is motorway. The AVS display does rise/fall dependant on driving style etc.

No matter what Audi say, you should be changing your oil every 5k minimum - the engine is very harsh on the oil; anything after this and you risk problems down the line.

A lot of unburnt fuel gets into the oil and lowers its performance quite noticeably. If you record your oil consumption you will see it start to increase well before the suggested service intervals by Audi, as the flash point of the oil decreases.
IMHO I don't see a problem with the AVS intervals of up to 20,000 miles or 2 years for most parts of the RS4, with the exception of the engine oil and filter.

Is there real benefits in it though? We are all getting the carbon deposits, even if we have it cleaned then change the oil more often.. If anything serious were to happen, just take the car back, get a new engine under warranty!
I hope the additional cost of the "long life" oil equates to at least some additional life?

It doesn't!
SR-71's oil was found to have a flashpoint of just 100 degrees c when he had it professionally analysed after 5k use.
Out of interest what oil/spec do audi use for fixed servicing?

Many of us are now out of manufacturers warranty, and even though some of us have purchased the extended Audi warranty I'm not convinced that would cover a new engine after 4, 5 or more years.
Anyway, prevention is always better than cure.

forgive my question, but what do you mean by change the oil? Empty it out completely or just top it up??
If it is empty out and change the oil filter every 5000 miles, do you get audi to do this and how much does it cost (approx)???

why would your engine not be covered?

You can get ~12L of appropriate oil (the car needs ~10L every change despite what the handbook says) for the RS4 from Opie Oils for ~£100.
The filter is ~£25.
The labour to change it out at a local specialist is half the cost of a main dealer so you're looking at ~£150/4-5000 miles if you're lucky.
Bearing in mind the minimal cost of the labour, I just get my local specialist to do it.
The ultimate point of changing the oil isn't just to prevent deposition in the inlet manifold, it is to ensure that the medium is providing the correct amount of lubrication at the normal engine operating temperature.
In the case of the RS4, the oil is damaged swiftly via various mechanisms (consult with the experts of the forum for more info) with the corresponding effect on its viscosity.

Believe it or not they still use the 5W-30 oil that is type 504.000 or 507.000 specification irrespective of whether fixed service or AVS.
I'll be changing mine in a couple of weeks once I procure a 10l catch tank and a torque wrench as my car has done about 5000 miles since it's thrid AVS and had already used a litre and a half of oil as a top up.
I have also opted to change my plugs every time the AVS is due.

im on 29k miles now, and I have had 3 AVS, I also changed the plugs at 24k. Im looking at changing my oil around every 5k, depending on how the car is driven ( depending on how many track days covered).
you mention oil flash point, what do you mean by this, I take it oil has a maximum operating temp, where if it is reached it is usless and can this happen if driving our cars hard? slightly off topic

So does this push us towards fixed or variable servicing or no difference? Mine is coming up, so it'd be good to know
