Steering wheel swap - any issues?

Hi

Sold my dads RS2 and now looking to source a RS4 Avant

A couple we are due to look have the spec we want except have the multi function wheel rather than the flat bottomed wheel which we would prefer

I can obtain the wheel no problem from Audi (at a ridiculous price) but my question is how easy or are there any considerations to take into account when fitting - (my dealer would be dong it)

My audi dealer have never changed one and couldn't really advise

Any tips would be appreciated

Cheers

R

well i liked the multi function element, but agree the wheel is cack, so i put a ttrs wheel in mine.

cost about 700 quid all in, for new wheel and airbag, and is a brilliant compromise.

same shape wheel, perforated to match your gear nob and seats, nice accents of chrome to match the rest of your trim and the multifunction element is retained.

here is the normal MFSW vs the rs4 FBSW

and here is the ttrs wheel installed in my car

All RS4s factory fitted with the MFSW have the Sport button on the dash.

The TTRS option looks like a perfect compromise - RS4 shape but keeping the functionality of the Multi function wheel

Thanks for the tip and the pics

no I know that bit but I meant - IF you happened to swap your FBSW for a TTRS FBSW and your sport buttons obvioulsy on the wheel (I wouldnt but lets just say) - then does the TTRS have a sport button or is that functionality then lost?

:wink:

you wouldnt swap an rs4 FBSW for a TTRS wheel though..

your car isnt multifunction, and you would have to move your sport button ( the ttrs doesnt have one)

you would only change you standard MFSW to the TTRS one, as funtionality is exactly the same, but you gain the shape and girth of the rs4 FBSW.

tis a like for like swap

You need to distinguish between:

- an RS4 wheel which is an FBSW (with Sport button, etc.);

- a TTRS wheel which is a FBMFSW (with radio and phone controls);

- and a standard MFSW (with radio and phone controls).

Swapping an MFSW to a FBMFSW is a straight swap, not even any coding changes.

Swapping an RS4 FBSW to either an MFSW or an FBMFSW would require you to install a Sport button on the dash AND change the wiper stalk to one with the trip computer controls, and make coding changes to the SCSM.
