Just brought a new car

Post by Oli » Thu Jul 23, 2009 8:43 pm

Needed a car to tide me over until I decide whats next, and have purchased a 2008 Edition 30 DSG, in grey. I've had a couple of MKV's before and they are a great car, and will stand me in good stead until I decide. Having the Porsche for 24 hrs, that I took in px against the RS did open my eyes, that what I really want is a 911, so maybe in the long run I will keep the GTI for the week and buy a toy.....

I pick the Golf up on Monday, and on my way back I am popping in to see my mate, to get it mapped, should be fun with 300+BHP.

PS I know this is nothing to do with RS4's, but I still want to be a part of this forum....

PPS, Oh and there is more room in the back for child seats etc than the RS4 because of the buckets!

What Porsche did you have? Please explain the PX for a Porsche bit! Where did it go after 24 hours?

Got a ED30 in the household too, and funnily enough in Grey. Best colour! Old skool manual for me though!

Couple of differences......S3 has a front mount intercooler, and couple of other things, that I can't remember!

The DSG Edition 30 is an amazing car and remapped is seriously rapid. Oli, if you haven't driven a remapped one, then don't be disappointed with the performance of an RS4, that's all I'll say!!

I came from a 330BHP 8p S3 before the Rs, so I am used to the power!

Didn't Will mean that a chipped one is almost as fast as an RS4, not that wont handle the grunt?

Right about 12 days in and 400 or so miles.

Mods as follows;

Eibach Sportline springs,
Carbon Speed intake
Stage II Oettinger Map
Stage I Oettinger DSG map - de limits the torque
Full TBE Milltek - resonated

Its is having a black front VW badge and rear tints to finish it off

Result - About 330BHP and a similar amount of torque.

Obviously it is never going to give the overall show/drive of the RS4, but point to point, it is quick, bloody quick, and weighing in at around 1350 kgs, give the car about 245 BHP per ton, which as you can imagine is very quick, and not too dissimilar to my old RS4 - It feels faster, but this is probably down to the way it delivers the power, compared to the big NA engine.

Yes I miss the RS4, but this should keep me amused in the mean time.

Now I'm off to find me some M3s and Porsches.....
