Highest MPG achieved & Lowest!

Post by Les » Mon Jul 06, 2009 2:16 pm

I could not believe my eyes when on the way home on Friday I hit 33mpg :!:  :!:
I was stuck in a huge line of traffic, on single carriageway, but still 33 :!:

Lowest has been about 16.6 having a spirited drive, I know lots of you will have tracked your cars and be crazier than me so lets hear your highest and lowest mpg stories please :?:

Assuming we are talking average (and not instant!) mpg 29/8 for me, with the computer being reset each time.

Average for the last 30k is 17mpg. Down to about 11-13mpg for a spirited drive home from work. I don't commute in traffic, and I'm never on motorways.

Best for me is about 28, worst is around 8-10, after some heavy spirited driving, and my average is about 17 - bearing in mind my wife uses the car 90% of the time, around town , with kids on board etc.

worst 7, best 28.5 after a constant 200 miles of careful driving, average 21.7. I always look on the brightside that my dads 7.4 V8 chevy only ever gives 9mpg best with the wind behind it :-)

I have a four mile spirited drive to and from work every day. I get through a tank of V-Power in about 170 miles on average.....don't really want to work that out!

I'm surprised the engine gets fully warm with only a 4 mile drive - I used to do a 4 mile commute and it often took 2 miles for the oil temp to get up to 60 and the 7000rpm limit to be removed.

Do you let it warm fully before you drive it "spirited"?

Oh definitely, it's really only the last mile where the road opens up to a straight, national speed limit road, by which point the engine is warmed....don't panic!!

It is nice to go out on the weekend and actually not worry though!!
