996 turbo will feel prehistoric inside, but fook me, they are fast..

make sure you get it remapped.

Don't do anything for me really. Lead and followed one last night on a private stretch and there was nothing in it between my remapped B5 and a stock 996 Tub. Why bother wasting practicality for mentality?

If there was one Porker I would have it's the 996 Tub but I wouldn't swap an RS4 for one, no way!

Fair point Cotigo but a remapped 996 turbo will destroy nearly everything on the road and track, and remember a 996 is classed as a 'supercar' not a small sports saloon like my RS4. Oh and i hear they actully produce 420bhp unlike my RS4 :audibash: but am still undecided!! so rock on the RS4 for the moment!!!

my brother owned a new 996 turbo back in 2002. Its was a devastatingly fast car, it destroyed corners at incredible speed. I had a drive in my dad's E46 and tried to keep up with him, he could drop me pretty easily!

As a passenger (so annoyed I never drove it) the car felt so fast you absolutely needed a racetrack to set it free, it felt too fast for the road.

Evo did a good buyers guide last month for the 996 turbo, might be worth a look.

you need to drive one and decide.. technology has moved on since then so not sure how it will feel today.

as i said earlier in the thread...prehistoric inside, but mental fast and a mapped one will redefine your understanding of point to point driving...

and then you go around bends, and your B5 rs4 will be left seriously wanting.

i dont think i would go b7 rs4 into 996 turbo, for no other reason than i hate sitting in old cabins, unless they are classic, like old mercs etc..

996 cabin was horrible when it came out and its a lot worse now...bad black plastic everywhere, and no amount of ali or carbon will make it look any better...

couldnt live with it every day...

would have a 996 gt2 as a toy though...they are lethal!

I would think 30k is achievable on a private sale basis or very close given the market for these is quite hot at the moment,Il get my tin hat out before mentioning that red may not be a hugely popular colour! Regarding jumping into a 996 the previous owner of my b5 rs4 did just that,i met him at the dealership when i picked the car up and due to useless main dealer we had plenty of time to kill before my car was ready to sign off.We went out for a play with both cars he was a little devastated at what he had parted with (some 35k extra) for no gain in performance,he had fitted a full tubisport already and had the car booked in for a remap,we kept in touch and he did say once remapped it flew.I like them and are on my "like to own 1 day" list but could only be on a second car basis,i agree with all the coments above there is potential for a faster car but at a price and too much of a compromise for me but everyones situation is different. They are affordable now and you can almost justify the poor cabin!

if its a itch that must be scartched then so be it and i can fully understand, as thats how i ended up with the M6 and RS4, however they might be fast but they look <beep> imo and i concur with the others about the interior, also <beep>, fully designed by messers barny and fred.....

if you want a balistic 4 wheel loon moblie with a crap interior then buy an mental evo and save some cash. as the result will be the same and also you wont be wishing you could afford/should have stretched for the 997TT.

Anyways good luck.

For me red is the best colour for the car IMO. when i bought the car Audi had a Black Silver and Red one at the garage i though the red stood out the best!!! As for the 996 turbo its def a car i have alway wanted to own, i was in one the other day with the carbon pack , and to be honest the cabin was looking very good, didnt differ to much from the Audi, yes it wasnt as mordern but comparied to the new 997 there isnt much diff inside!!! a 997t would be very nice my friend has a white cab, but with a new house/wedding drawing ever closer i cant justify the money for the 997t, and for that money i think i would go for the GTR. Am still not sure, think i will have to book a test drive in a 996t to put my mind at rest!!
