N97 compatibility

I've just got a Nokia N97 and I'm having trouble with the bluetooth connection.
I've been able to pair, but I can't get my contacts or call log to download.
I've contacted Nokia customer services who are useless.
Anyone on here had similar issue and know of a resolution.
If I can't get it fixed in a day or so I'll have to send the phone back as I use it more in the car than anywhere.
I've also tried to connect it to my wife's S5 using SAP and get the same issue. No contacts or call log.
Any help or advice appreciated.
Sorry if this is the wrong forum.

I have the same issue with a N82. Spoken to Audi, and basically there is no fix. All N series Nokias seem to have that problem. Audi have a list of compatible phones, and the list of Nokias is fairly short and limited to the 'basic' phones, like 6110. Best you speak to an Audi dealer, they can give you the list. Very frustrating...

Great, looks like I'll have to go back to my old 6300 then.

I had this problem last year with a Nokia E66 and an S3, no contact upload and also having to pair manually every time I got in the car. Strangely though, after struggling with this for a week or so and deciding to get a different phone, it suddenly started working fine for no apparent reason, and I had no further problems until I sold the car. So, might be worthwhile to keep trying for a while!

Some N series models can have contacts upload functionality added by uploading a Contacts Manager from the Nokia website.

I had a look on Nokia's website and the Contacts Manager software was only available for N series up to the N96. I did try to download it but I got a message that it wasn't compatible with the phone. It would allow me to upload it anyway, so perhaps I should try it?

It could be you have an old Bluetooth module in the car. From memory you need the newer Q module to have full compatability with newer Nokias, that said the N97 may be set up differently?

Pippyrips, how can I tell what bluetooth module I have?
It was installed by craigyb in Sept 06 so I assume it'll probably be an older version.

Since it's a retrofit the module will probably be behind the glovebox - so you could either drop the glovebox and read the label on the module, or read the version using VAG-COM.

N series don't work well with Parrot kits too, the new E71 is fine, Weird!

I had the same problem with my N95. After doing a good few hours of google searching and a lot of reading the forums it would appear that Nokia decided to 'leave out' the little bit of softwear that did all this. Very nice.! I eventually found a peice of sofrware that I downloaded to my phone that when run and connected to the car downloaded the phonebook. Problem is its a 'snap shot' type of application in that if you later add names and numbers to the phone when not connected they dont update in the car, you have to run the software application in the phone again. Bit of pest but at least it gets your phone book into the car. Also, it wont transfer over your call log, only logs the calls while the phone is connected.

The module will be prior to Q if it was September 06, they cant be updated in A4's so it must be replaced.
The newer N97 does work well with the latest modules, passing dialled, missed, etc and phonebook without any software. But when in rSAP mode with the S5 it will need the software, go figure.
By the way I found that the Nokia 616 download manager works on the XM5800 and N97
