First Modifications....

Post by approved » Wed Jun 24, 2009 12:23 pm

have sorted the musical side of things out, and am more than happy with the noise/pace, but cant help but think that the wheels are too far into thearches for me...

anyone on here running spacers?

i was thinking 10mm front and 15mm rear?

am keen to avoid rubbing as my suspension is the plus version..so already quite low..

what say thee?

At the risk of incurring great wrath...

Spacers = visual appeal only.

Spacers = upset the front suspension geometry adversely.

Quite interested to get some feedback to this as well since I'm thinking of changing the wheel. Facing problem finding ET 29, most has been ET 22 or 20. Same concept as spacers, any feedback from others who has done either spacer or wheel change? Thanks! :D

If you use a spacer to correct the wheel offset and the wheel ends up with the same orientation around the hub as intended then it should be fine (I did this to fit my RS6 rims). This isn't quite the same as moving the wheel bodily outwards with spacers, I have no experience of doing that and those that have seem to have had no problems, but in theory it might have adverse affects on the geometry as rkflyer says, and also potentially on wheel bearing life.

But I've just noticed that you are looking at wheels with too small an offset, rather than to large, so I got the wrong end of the stick there!

does anyone on here run spacers at all?

the mtm cars all run them as widened track assists stabilty when pushing on in high power cars...by all accounts would also help what little understeer was there as well.

anyone with any technical know how like to elaborate on this?

I picked some spacers up recently but as yet have not fitted them.

I know others have used them and had no problems, ive also asked MRC about whether they would have a negative affect and they suggested they could actually improve handling.

I'm running 8mm on the front and 10mm on the rear although I think the 8's are a tad big and may change them to 6's

My wheels are ET32 with 3MM spacers to take them to ET29. No problems.

Sorry you're Wrong! The smallest hubcentric is 3mm then 5mm, 8mm 10mm etc.

it was 5mm I meant not 6mm.

I will try and get some pictures up on Saturday.

this is good info...6 mm would seem to be a good choice...
or 9.5" with a 29 offset...+ 6mm...
