Deposit placed on my RS4...... now I have to wait

Well with the Cayman S a fading memory I have tracked down a cracking low mileage, early 07 example of the B7 RS4 !

It is Phantom Black with all the good extras (inc black optics which I really like) and is a saloon.

I have ended up buying it from a dealer and the deal is very good, car has near new tyres, will be serviced, have the wheels refurbed, taxed and will have the multipoint check carried out and any work needed will be completed prior to collection. Also gives the benefit of being able to talk to them if any issues once I have the car.

The only problem is that the car has just come in and has a private plate on it and the process of removing it could mean a three week wait for me, especially as we are in a holiday period now

Guys n gals any pointers on ownership, is it advisable to change the oil every 6k miles? The car will be on longlife servicing how have you found this? My commute is a round trip of 55 miles a day with speed averaging 50 - 60 I guess but will include moments when the "warp drive" can be used, what sort of fuel consumption do you think i will achieve? I am not worried about this bye the way, or i would have bought a 2.0lt deisel. My Scooby STi PPP managed about 19 - 20 mpg and i am figuring the RS4 will be similar if not a little better perhaps. I am also planning to have the Supagard Plus on the car, does anyone have it and is it worth a little extra?

Hi Les congrats on the purchase!

With the oil change -
i'm on the long life oil and change at 10-12 K - but i check oil very regularly and top up as needed.
my Commute is approx 50miles round trip mostly A roads at Warp factor 8 so fuel economy suffers approx 14-16mpg
I had my car supaguarded when i bought it and it looked sweet for about a week BUT i would not get it again (i paid £400 - waste of money IMO0

well done mate!!!!!!you should get at least 20mpg oil change same as above.supaguard a waste off money really best bet to get the paintwork detailed by polished bliss etc cos your bound to find swirlmarks and scratches but ENJOY THE CAR!!!!

Who did the refurb, Audi tend to use mobile sprayers and the wheels suffer quickly as a result.

Do not run the car on the AVS schedule, swap to fixed intervals and change the oil at a minimum every 5 k - In light of recent threads I think this is a must.

As for your mpg, & 55ish mph I would image you can get anywhere for 22-27mpg dependant on how you drive.

When I did an urban commute I averaged 16mpg, but recently I've been doing a motorway commute and was getting 20mpg.

Cruising in the south of France ups that to 25mpg.

I agree with pippyrips about the wheel re-furbs, had a wheel sorted as part of purchase from a dealer, repair disappeared in a car wash. If wheels are damaged push for new replacements as these are powder coated and baked not sprayed with a rattle can.

I had the Multi Point Check done on mine before I bought it from Newbury Audi; everything was ticked as OK. Ten days later my local dealer finds that both front shocks are leaking, the LH one was soaked. The Multi Point Check isn't worth the paper it's written on.

Do yourself a favour and ask the dealer to get the car up on the ramps so YOU can visually check all four shocks for any signs of leakage; don't take their word for it.

I contacted Audi UK following this debacle and they sorted it for me - they seem to care but the franchised dealers sadly don't IMO although I cannot tar them all with the same brush. I hear nothing but praise for Camberely Audi for example.

Look up DRC on this forum and become an expert before you go and inspect your car on the ramps.

And congrats on a cracking choice of wheels, you won't be dissapointed!

my experience from audi dealer was also crap when buying my rs6. multi point check is worth bugger all. mine was all ticked but next week it was in for both front CV boots and all four tyre pressure monitors and faulty CD changer.

oh, and private plate, tell em to pull their finger out and get their arses down to the dvla, you can be done in 10days

Agree with the others that Supaguard is a waste of money. Tried it on the Wife's Polo when it was bought.

The wheels are extremely difficult to refurb. A colleague bought his RS4 from our local dealer - wheels were refurbed and not long after the paint began flaking off. Went back to the dealer who explained that they had had problems with wheel refurbisment and had changed thier contractor. The new one would completely bead last the wheels, paint and bake to prevent the same problems again. It hasn't worked and the finish has again flaked off.

Hmmmm. On my way to work, (15 miles) I regularly arrive at the office with 30+ Mpg average. And no,I don't drive like a granny!

The reality is that on the way home, I rarely reach 20Mpg, with 18 about the norm. (Work is considerably downhill from home)

Since new the car tells me the average is 19.7 mpg (over 25K unless there is a maximum rolling mileage it averages over)
