milltek...less power???

Post by p18bon » Wed Apr 08, 2009 2:55 pm

hi,

had a milltek fitted last week, car sounds great and what not but the performance is worrying.
as all b7 rs4 drivers will know, when the foot is down u get a kick at around 4500rpm... since the exhaust has been fitted that kick is no longer there.
i know my car inside out, had it 2 years done just under 35k, it definiotely is lacking something since the exhaust got fitted.
was on way back from manchester last night, doing 80 - 90mph and then occasionally putting the foot down - getting a turbo lag type of effect.
its really annoying and worrying

so have any of u guys had problems with milltek when first fitted or experienced problems like mine in any way??

any advice / tips / feedback would be greatly appreciated!!

Fais

this is where for me (if it wanst obvious already) that something was wrong!!!!

Hey,

I know the exact problem you are referring to. Back when I had my Milltek installed, it was great for the first 2K miles... def. felt a power increase over stock. Then I started to feel a "lag" type of feeling right around 4500/5000 rpm where you should feel the boost of power. The car would pull hard until 5K and just flatline.

After lots of diagnosis... I discovered the vacuum hoses for the stock exhaust valve lost it's plugs from when they installed the milltek. That caused loss of vacuum that would also control the intake runner flaps etc, creating the loss of power when the flaps are supposed to function.

Take a look by the mufflers underneath your car and check out the rubber hoses and make sure they're plugged up. If not, you can insert a 1" screw and that should plug it up nicely.

Is your milltek valved or non-valved btw? If it is valved, than just make sure those vacuum tubes are secured properly to the exhaust valve sulenoids.

It’s unlikely it can affect performance though there is some evidence to suggest it can.

If you look at my before torque curve in the 'MRC vs. Pippyrips B7 RS4' thread it dropped by about 20ftlb around 4,500/5,000 rpm when compared to Andyuk91and SR71's standard cars. My car was also standard at the time other than a milltek non res/non valved cat back system.

Fortunately I don't have this problem anymore 8)

If it is the non-valved version... the vacuum tubes will be seen hanging freely above the mufflers. That is when they should be plugged, I used 1" long screws and have worked great!
