Smoking!

Hi guys,

Quick piece of advice or a steer needed please? The ol love truck is smoking a little (blue black smoke) initially on start up and on acceleration. I know these cars tend to do it a little but I want to make sure. I have no loss in power I can tell and there seems to a be no over usage on oil. In fact I’ve not needed to top up for some time since last service to be honest. I know if I take into the bloody stealership they will say "nothing wrong" as always so I would prefer to get some ideas from you guys before I start my dialogue with the numpties.
Cheers in advance

Mev

There's been loads of post which will confirm "they all do that sir".

On initial start up the engine runs very rich, combine that with the oil that gets into the intake manifold due to the way the oil separation system (doesn't) work and we all get smoke at start up.

Also due to the way FSI/GDI engines work we all get smoke (actually tiny soot particles) on hard or WOT acceleration at high revs.

SW0090 upgrade attempts to limit smoking on startup...

That's what you get when you buy an oil burner!

To some extent yes, I noticed a reduction in smoke on start up.

That said the unavoidable gunk build up on the inlet valves means no software update can stop it completely.
