Potential new RS4 owner - price advice appreciated
Hi,
Always been a fan of the RS4 and it feels like an itch that needs to be scratched.
Hopefully going to view this car tomorrow:
http://usedcars.audi.co.uk/carview.aspx?id=600434984
56 reg, Phantom Black Avant with just under 20K on the clock up for £34.5K.
Given that we are in the middle of a recession, and seeing some of the other threads on this forum I was wondering whether people were getting much joy on offers? If so, what would a reasonable offer be on this car? I was thinking around £32K?
Also, what to check on the car - DRC, recalls, anything else?
Thanks,
john

Car looks good and is priced about right for a main dealership. If you don't have a trade-in then I think your offer will be pretty fair. Don't assume that the current economic climate gives you the upper hand. These cars are still selling well and no dealer is giving them away.
Only issue I can see is the steering wheel which will show age quite quickly. Make sure of the cars history - I see it's got a cherished plate and that's probaby a good sign. If it's one owner then could be a winner.

I would also buy on condition, and not age, mleage etc - Give it a good test drive - 1 hour plus, and go round every panel with a fine tooth comb (sorry if Im telling you how to suck eggs). The current economic climate means these cars have found their lowest price and are currently on their way up again, the bargains just aren't out there that there was 2-3 months ago.

It looks great, I've got a phantom saloon with the optics. JMCs 100% right, history, history, history. Ask about any warranty work etc. There's a few of these about so you can afford to be picky with regards to general condition. Don't be afraid to ask them to put any cosmetic things right either. Enjoy!!

RE: Potential new RS4 owner - price advice appreciated
I picked up a 57 plate (reg Oct 07) saloon last week with just over 10K on the clock from an Audi dealer for £36k. Pretty much the same spec and the car is immaculate inside and out with full service history and no historical warranty issues to concern. Not sure if there is any differential in prices between the saloon and the Avant but this may give a guide as to what others are paying. I did try to get the price down further but as I was trading in an Exige this made it difficult as I was pretty much tied with what the dealer could get for the Exige from the Lotus dealers. The car was fully serviced (long term service) plus new boots on all corners plus some rectification to the pain work to rid of a nasty stone chip on the front bonnet and a scratch on the boot lid. Overall pretty pleased and don't feel as though I've been ripped off when comparing with other cars of the same age and older being advertised for the same price or more. Certainly does appear that cars have started moving again probably as people decide to take advantage of the lower prices which is probably why prices are firming up again.

Out of interest, there's a very yellow RS4 Avant (Jun 07) for sale in Brum Audi for £35k that only two months ago was listed for £39k. They lopped £4k off in two stages and although I think it was overpriced in the first place, they've had this car (and another) for at least eight months. I suppose my point is that dealers are still finding it difficult to move cars such as these and although it's pretty much bottomed out at around £33kish (sub £30k Avant anyone?) I can't see prices going up anytime soon.

Er its yellow!! Someone will buy it, but whilst there are stronger colours available for the same price, they will go first - I actually like them in yellow - not sure if I could own it though.
And I assure you prices are firming up, from run of the mill cars, rights up to Prosches etc. I run a large independant garage, and although business has been very good over the last couple of months, prices are slowly creeping up and stock harder to find, as everyone snaps up the bargains - A good example of this is a 12 month old Vectra SRI diesel has gone up, in the trade, by nearly a £800 since christmas. Now is the time to buy, mark my words.
Most dealers have reported record January and Februarys, due to cars being prices correctly and a lot cheaper, and more available money, due to lower mortgages etc! This should have a knock on effect on new cars as well, as we've always paid too much for them in this country, I mean at the momenet you can get £7500 of a Disco, £5000 of a Freelander, 15% off any SAAB, 0% finance and big discounts on any Vauxhall. Providing we can weather the strom, which seems to be happening, the consumer will be much better off, car wise when this CC and R is over, due to cheaper prices and interest rates. The building trade seems to be picking up again, and with the psoitive movement in the S/H car industry, things are on the up.
Just my tuppence

RE: Re: RE: Potential new RS4 owner - price advice appreciat
Locally to me, west sussex, things are starting to move again. Hosues are starting to sell etc etc
RE: Re: RE: Potential new RS4 owner - price advice appreciat
Fair points about prices picking up, not my area of expertise so always happy to be corrected! As for the yellow thing, I agree, not my first choice either but I was surprised at how much better it looked in the flesh than on the website. Still couldn't live with it though!
