Hi everyone,

Bit of help needed! I'm having problems with my parking sensors, they're switching themselves on and off without me touching anything. The first time I took it in they said they had put a new switch on, this worked for a couple of weeks. Then I took it in again and they put in a new control unit which solved the problem for all of a few hours!

It's now going in again tomorrow and frankly it's doing my nut in. Has anyone had this problem or am I missing something???

One more thing if anyone could help. On full lock it grinds, clunks, and the car skips a little. Does anyone on here experience this. I know 4 x 4's can have this problem so I don't know if it's normal or not, I've only just noticed it! The shocks have just been done so I know it's not that.

Not sure on the sensors but regarding the juddering - are your tyres getting near the legal limit & does this mostly happen when the car and more importantly tyres are cold?

I had this previously and Audi could not identify the problem, it then disappeared as soon as I put new rubber on.

The tyres are now getting near change timeand the symptoms you describe are back.

In short, on hard lock the diff struggles with the large, low profile tyres as 1 wheel, moves quicker than the other on the same axel. It seems the less tread depth/ tyre radius there is, the more it shows.

Cold temperatures also play a part as what rubber is in contact with the road is less pliable until they warm up.

SR71 is also having a similar experience which upon pushing, Audi have suggested the same reasons as above.

That could well be the reason, the tyres are getting a bit low and it is f*cking freezing.

I guess the sensor problem is unique to me.

Not quite accurate mate rear sensors are on after reverse has been engaged which is generally always when parking but if the front sensors are on they would irritate the sh#t out of you in traffic..... So the solution is a button to activate when you need it.

Get someone with VAG-COM to take a look and see if there's any fault codes logged. Might be a faulty transducer?

I've just spoken to Audi who have said that there is no fault. Apparently every time I park in a forward gear i.e at the side of the road or up to a wall in a pub car park I have to press the button to switch it on, this just sounds crazy having to think about this everytime I park.

Not only that but up to a few weeks ago the sensors were permanently on and I would switch them off in traffic, in other words the choice was mine. I also have just spoken to a mate with an S6 and his are permanently on, Come to think about it my 911 sensors were permanent and my RR sport the same.

WTF?

why would you want the sensors on all the time ?
i don't think it's a fault, it's pretty easy to turn on the sensors if you think you need them to park forwards, but understandably the rear ones activate as you reverse.

I want them on so I don't have to think about it every time I pull up somewhere (Which is dozens of times a day), I want the car to tell me if I'm going to hit something, it's how it used to be and how all my other cars have been.

I had the front and rear sensors on a B6 S4 ... and they worked EXACTLY the same as the sensors on the B7 RS4, i.e. switch on automatically when you select reverse and switch off when you exceed 10kph, if you want them on when you don't select reverse (i.e. when parking forwards) you have to press the button.

Think about the consequences of the sensors coming on automatically when you slow down to less than 10kph .... you're in a traffic queue and the sensors beep nearly all the bl..dy time, a pedestrian walks between you and the car in front or behind and the beeping goes crazy,... etc. I definitely DON'T want them to work like that.

Just get used to pressing the switch - in my experience they've always worked this way on Audis.

Yeah I guess you're right.

As PetrolDave says, they work the same on the C5 RS6 too.

You could start reverse parking (rather than nose in), that way your sensors will be activated and you won't have to phaff with pressing buttons.
