Chipped Windscreen

Hello All,

Over the last week or so, I have had quite a few hefty stone chips clattering into the windscreen, mostly whilst driving on the motorway - I suppose the melting snow from the edges of the roads brings the debris onto the main carriage-way. Finally had one yesterday that left a big chip in the windscreen, which is a bit of a pain. I'm covered on the insurance, it's just the time and hassle getting these things done that causes me grief.

Anyone else been getting a lot of direct hits on the windscreen, and any damage? Just curious, 'cos I will be pretty miffed if i spend the time getting it sorted then pick up another one straight away.

Cheers.

Had the same thing a while ago. R A C windscreens is just down the road from me but our insurance use autowindscreens, closest one about 45 mins away or could arrange for it to be sorted at home.
Had a word at R A C and ended up getting it done for £40 cash in hand.

Choose who fits the screen carefully. I would go to your local dealer and ask for advise.

Doesn't the windscreen also contain the ariel or something similar? If so make sure they give you the correct one!

my car has had many(5) windscreens,if you go to the dealers they will send it away to have it done as Audi do not do them.
they are not a special screen so are done by any of the screen companies.

Just make sure you ask for a "Genuine Audi" replacement screen, that's what you're entitled to, or you'll get an inferior replacement, i've been there !!

The aerials are on the rear window (and on the rear side windows of the Avant) not the windscreen.

Tks all.
I have the cabriolet, and as far as I know there is no aerial or anything in the front windscreen. I think I can probably get away with a repair rather than a replacement, but as one of the previous posters also mentioned, my insurers insist on using a company which isn't especially convenenient so may have to do it privately.
Still slightly worried that given the number of things that have made a huge noise crashing into the windscreen of late that it is only a matter of time before it happens again, but not a lot one can do about that I suppose.

Who is your insurance company? The CANNOT specify who does the work. All they can do is cap the amount they will pay to another company.
