A week and a half for a check engine light?

A couple weeks ago my check engine light came on... The car was running fine so a few days later I got it to the dealer near my house. They told me that the problem was the gasket at the intake manifold. Ok... cool... fix it. So they got the part in and proceeded to tell me that per Audi's procedures they had to take apart the entire top end of the motor, soak the parts, and hand clean every valve and put it back together. they've had my car for a week and a half now... Has anyone else experienced anything like this??
Oh... the best part of this story is the POS A4 they gave me as a loner just had the check engine light come on in it!

You couldn't make it up really, could you.
Never heard of your issue before, hope it gets resolved soon.

Experience with a intake manifold gasket leak? Haven't heard that one. An RS4 with mucked up intake valves? The cases of that are becoming more and more prevalent. To swap intake gaskets would take a shop 3-4 hours. My guess is they took the manifold off to do so and they saw the dreaded intake valve build-up. Most shops can do a decent job of soaking and cleaning them right then and there and just put the intake back on and its done - one day job. I've never heard of them taking the cylinder heads apart, which would require removing the entire engine from the car. Have you been in the shop to see just what's been taken apart?

After talking to them again, i think that's what happened. But still, they told me there were stages of cleaning and soaking and rinsing that needed to be done. It has been since last tuesday. I have not made it over there to see exactly what they have broken down. I probably should but they're closed by the time i usually leave the office. Hopefully i'll get her back tonight and see how my squeeky clean motor runs.

were you consuming oil?
that sounds crazy, disassembling one of the most complex components on the car to clean the valves...
with chances being, they will foul again...
how many miles on your car?

i'm not consuming anything over what i've been reading on here... about 1 liter/5k. And the car only has about 9,000 miles on it. I have it back now and she's running great. They did the software upgrade as well and everything seems fine. It still goes sideways with the push of a button
