Im curious as the average mpg stayed within 1mpg between a hard drive and steady drive 15mpg and 15.8mpg surely theres more difference in the real world?

I think something's wrong with that calculation but since we are talking about averages I can't determine the problem. I'd check out the instant MPG figures.
A steady motor way drivce at 80 usually returns about 26mpg for me where as a more spirited drive has usually drained the tank before the computer can calculate the result!!

If the average mpg hardly changes between a steady drive and a mental thrash, then it is usually because the average mpg hasn't been reset for quite a while. The longer it isn't reset, the less accurate it is in the short term, because the average will be over a huge long period of time.

You need to reset the average mpg counter by holding down the reset button on the stalk (whilst average mpg showing) and then do the comparison. There should be a considerable difference afterwards.

Unless you've done all this of course then I'm not sure what's going on.

19.7mpg for me for the first 1000 miles I've owned it

I can get around 25mpg on a motorway cruise at 80. Around town running cold a lot this drops to about 16mpg.

I wouldn't even have this discussion. Our cars are more thirsty than George Best at the finals of the world salt eating championship. You just have to live with it.

Managed 23.5 mpg from Newcastle to Birmingham and back in 5 1/2 hours with £65 of Tesco 99 RON (tank and a bit) today.

If I had taken in the scenery can regularly get 26-28mpg, around town and having fun high teens. Miles wise between 220 and 370 miles per tank

370 a tank - What speed you driving at?

I'm driving to Northern Spain in the summer and don't want to keep stopping for fuel - But I couldn't face driving down at 56mph?

What mileage per tank will I get at 75-80mph?

RS4's aren't for driving at 56mph, 370 from a tank was brimming it at Newcastle using the fuel filler nozzle toggle trick and driving to London and then to near Oxford and the DIS reading 0 miles for 10 miles before filling up and I always drive at 70 unless through average speed zones on the
M1

According to the on board computer I'm getting around 21mpg when commuting and better on longer runs, but dividing the distance travelled between fill ups by the fuel used gives only around 17.5mpg. I don't think the computer can be trusted (or there's a leak in my fuel tank!).

just got back fro courchevel, max got out of tank 80mph ish 320 to a tank.
