How does your RS4 run on Supermarket super U/L ?
How does your RS4 run on Supermarket super U/L ?
Just wanted to know if anyone has changed from using the well known brands like Shell and Esso to supermarket fuel and noticed any change in performance and/or fuel consumption ?

I regularly swap between BP Ultimate, Total Excellium and Sainsburys 97 and to be honest, I've never noticed any difference.

It has been noted that BP Ultimate is not so good as the sales are low and the fuel goes off in the tanks ... Shell and Tesco 99 seem to be the pick of the bunch

I've been using only Shell VPower for the last few months but the attraction of Tesco 99 at 92.9p per litre (with a 5p per litre voucher) was too much on Sunday.
I know this sounds strange, but my car seems much "sharper" and more powerful on this tank of Tesco 99 than it's been for several months while I've been running VPower. Nothing else has changed, same roads at the same time of day, similiar rubbish weather, same driver, etc.

Tesco's 99 is the only thing I put in my car! I find it's great value and to be honest from test results I've seen I think it's probably one of, if not the best fuel about at the moment IMO of course.
Current car..... hmmmmm????

I doubt that very much lol Probably loosing at least 20+bhp (IMO)Plodwyn wrote:95 and no difference
(the difference is not felt immediately, the ECU values are cumulative...)
RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: How does your RS4 run on Supermarket sup
The engine cannot deliver rated power under any circumstances with 95. So, yes, definitely a material drop in power.
As to whether you notice it, it will depend to what extent you're exploring the envelope.

Tesco 99 for me does give sharper throttle response and more surge and same fuel economy as V-Power. The part that really puts me of V-Power though is that it is still 7p / litre more expensive than their unleaded where Tesco 99 is only 5p /litre. V-Power started at 6p / litre more when it changed and with fuel prioce hikes went to 7p; now fuel prices are coming down the margin isn't.
The difference on a monthly basis for me betwen using Tesco, especially now combined with the 5p / litre discount vouchers and fillign with V-Power is nearly a full tank per month in price.

After getting a 5p/litre voucher at sainsburys the other day i've used their super unleaded twice now and haven't noticed any difference (and i do explore the envelope) compared to V- power and 99 tesco..... the only difference being with voucher in Huddersfield 90.9p a litre!

No way.Plodwyn wrote:95 and no difference
I used to have an S4, on 95 I could full throttle accelerate from a junction onto a roundabout and round the curve off the roundabout, with 98 or 99 I had to ease off the throttle.
With the RS4, I find the difference between 95 and 98/99 even more noticeable (on the rare occasions when I've had to use 95 or run dry). On 95 it just doesn't have the urgency to rev right to the red line, it feels more "choked" and simply does not have the same ability to accelerate.
Re: RE: Re: RE: How does your RS4 run on Supermarket super U
Agreed. I used Shell 95RON last night on the way back from London to Newcastle purely because it was a motorway run and station had run our of V-Power, and even when I got the chance to accelerate when coming our of roadworks for example I had to drop to 5th to get the same urgency in acceleration as on a tank of 98 or 99 RON. Fuel economy was down by about 8-10% as well, normally get 360-370 from a tank of super, only managed 340 last night.PetrolDave wrote:No way.Plodwyn wrote:95 and no difference
