M5, C63, RS6? Any other alternatives to RS4

Post by richardofthesun » Wed Nov 05, 2008 6:22 pm

Presently only have 6 mths left on my contract RS4. Love it to bits and looking to go back to RS4 on next release. In the meantime, can anyone recommend any other cars. Love the quattro and so RS6 winning at present, but a little too steep on the price. Needs to a new car so can go on a contract. Thanks

I can only think of an M3 or GTR. I guess the E63, Quattroporte and IS-F would all be out of budget.

There isn't really another 4WD alternative in this category, all the rest are RWD. C63 AMG seems to be a more popular choice then an M3. IS-F is the dark horse, plent of kit in it and equally as rapid but more importantly, excellent aftersales and dealers.

It also depends if you're happy to lose the manual gearbox?

I work next door to the local BMW dealers so I see a new M3 twice a day - it's going to take a VERY long time for it to grow on me (plus they will have to make an M3 Touring if they want a sale to me).

What about an R32 Golf or the new Scirroco? Not as fast but lovely cars!

Just hope the new CTS-V has better interior build quality than the old one, it reminded me of a Daewoo Matiz special edition with leather!

That cracked me up - my mum has a Daewoo Matiz, its funny as F**k to drive. 800cc and 3 cylinder. Don't laugh but when reved hard it sounds like a little Porsche engine (ish).

<Thread creep>

We had a Hyundai Getz down in Oz for 2 weeks back in April whilst visting relatives.

We put 5000km on it in 2 weeks...flat out most of the time. With the ac on I reckon it topped out at ~160kph in the 38C heat.

But never missed a beat.

"Getz you from A to B no worries."

Every now and again its great to drive a little car like this, just to appreciate whats back home in the garage!

It didn't sound like a Porsche though....more like a blender.

Shame it needs to be new - at the moment, you could probably get almost anything you like for your ££'s (anyone see Top Gear on Sunday?)
