Burgled

Post by GraRS07 » Thu Sep 18, 2008 9:51 am

Just been burgled, ransaked downstairs, nicked few bits, found keys to my wifes new Golf but I hide keys to mt RS4 Avant. Took Golf and had call from police and they told me that they had found it and have burnt it out. How pointless, it had leather DSG, Sat Nav, VAG body kit, at least they could of done is flogged it.

Anyhow, my spare keys were in the safe, which they crowbared out of the floor, so took my car straight to AUDI Otterspool Way and they changed all locks etc 900.00 quid. Told ins co and they said that as I had 500.00 excess thay would pay the 400.00. I duly told them that I would leave car on drive and the burglars could come and collect. Needless to say they paid full amount...

Moral of the story...HIDE YOUR KEYS......[/b]

Sorry to hear this mate.

Glad you've still got the RS though... i.e. that they didn't take everything!

Absolute spineless job shy useless c*nts.

Glad that you were both ok, the thought of someone coming into my house in the middle of the night sends shivers down my spine. How did they get in? Always thought we lived in an ok part of town, until our next door neighbours house was broken into and they took both sets of car keys and left in his Merc which was found 30 miles away with an empty fuel tank. Other than that nothing was taken, even a laptop on the side by the keys and £10 note in plain view in centre console of car! Gobshytes.

Yep, not very nice. They broke in through rear Patios, need less to say Ive now got full alarms system installed.

Most of the things they took were covered on insurance, although all the photos of every car i have owned including my first 3 ltr capri [1977]were in the safe, plus all old photos of missus & me when courting gone, cant replace memories...........b*stds

Was the '4 on the drive or in garage? I too would be keen to know how they broke in. I live in a new build and have those double glazed units that explode when they crack. All windows and doors are 5point lock and 5lever.

On the golf situation, they could have ragged it, kerbed the wheels, fcuked the tracking, damaged the car mechanically and ruined the inside. At least as a burnt wreck the insurance should get yoiu the complete value......

As a final note, at least they left you and family all alone...

My drive is about 50yds long and parking is behind my cottages so cars cannot be seen from road.

I am a bit ashamed to say but I supply most of the national house builders with their windows and doors, but the rear patios where they entered were Aluminium rubbish fitted about 25yrs ago, so my fault realy. needless to say I have ordered new ones.

Sounds like you have tough glass in your windows/doors, no prob there but if you replaced the glass with laminated sealed units that would solve the problem.

Hi

Really sorry to hear your news. I was in a similar position 9 months ago, unfortunately they took my car as we were out in my wife's. Since then £10k has been spent on CCTV, alarm upgrades you name it. The only concern that I would have is that they may be back to target your RS if they have the keys. However if they have half a brain cell which I doubt they will realise that you will immediately change all the locks. So I would guess that the episode is over as they would have targetted it again almost immediately - before you had chance to sort the locks. The whole event leaves you feeling really paranoid and bitter. We have got over it now, but for a time it was very tough. As the previous comments at least you and your family are safe and unscathed. Best of luck mate.

This is the exact reason I cancelled my RS4 order, it would have gone for sure. I still want one, but it is too much of a risk. We had scum break in for my wife's car on a Sunday afternoon while out but as always I hid the keys well as I always do. My old shed motorway beater is the same make so they took the keys for that but left the car LOL.

Beefed up the home security which I never really thought too much about and we have resisted a few weak attacks since. If they want to get it, they will, but just make it hard and time consuming for them. If you have an alarm, always set it at night - you'd be amazed how many people do not set them. I was shocked how easily they popped the 'new build' windows with nothing more than a big screwdriver......needless to say they were changed.
