Slave TV screens and ICE for rear passengers

Post by P_G » Mon Sep 08, 2008 2:57 pm

A quick question to ask if anyone has done this to their RS? Having one toddler and another on the way I wondered if anyone had upgraded their ICE to have headrest inserted slave screens running from their RNS-E or a phatnoise and who they may recommend for doing the work?

I have a phatnoise but they have gone bust now.

As for the slave screens, I would be interested too.

I've got the bucket seats so didn't have the option of headrest monitors. I also wanted something that my little girl could use on a plane etc

After doing a lot of research i have just ordered this:

http://shop.incardvd.uk.com/acatalog/co ... B685_.html

It gives me the best of both worlds and can be moved easily from 1 car to another. It also has a good spec, including a FM transmitter to play sound through the car if wanted.

Let me know if its of use and will let you know how I get on (it arrives tomorrow!)

Must be possible as i had widescreens, DVD player & PS2 installed into my C5 RS6, all running perfectly through RNS D. Even had dual channel so one rear passenger could watch a DVD while the other either watched a different DVD through the PS2 or played on the PS2. The screens were called something like Techtonik & were sunk iperfectly nto the rear headrests.

Screen issue would naturally be a bit of a problem with the Buckets.

I have the Recaro sports seats rather than buckets so no issues with housing them and I have seen RNS-E and slave screen set ups previously but not for a while.

You can have it as an option in the Q7's just wondered if a retrofit system was available.

Pippyrips, I would be interested to see how you get on with your set up anyway as an alternative, thanks for the offer.

There's no video output from the RNS-E so you can't have true slave screens.

However, the video from the TV tuner or multimedia adapter is available, so you can have screens in the rear that show the TV or DVD video but they will not show the navigation etc.

as my username may give away i run two in car electronics specialist stores,

this is possible as already mentioned, altough the obvoius problems with the bucket seats, another option would be a quality roof mounted screen which fit in the RS4 perfectly, and will be putting an alpine one in my own RS4.

There are many quality stores around the country, as well as some not so good ones! if anyone would like a contact i can direct you to a local specialist that can hep if your not local.

No issues for me as I do not have bucket seats. Thanks Dave, I didn't think they were true slaves and didn't want the navigation to be shown in the rear, just for them to run off the multimedia adapter.
