What would you replace your RS4 with?

I'm considering making a change soon and so far have a short list of two, a DB9 or a 997 Turbo. My situation has changed slightly (wife having a bigger car, children being older) and therefore don't think I need a four door anymore, but would like to keep four seats (well, enough of a seat for children).

This sort of got me thinking. For everything the RS4 is, there is no better car, so if it wasn't for a change in situation I wouldn't even consider looking else where. If you were to change car, what would you consider (situation change or not)?

On a side, does anybody have experience of either the DB9 or 997 Turbo, or does anybody have any other possible alternatives that I haven't considered?

I am concerned about the rear leg room in the DB9 (even with me at only 5' 10" and only wanting rear space for children), but apparently the turbo has much better leg room.

For the way I drive, I would actually consider the MB C63AMG or a Gallardo (but it's a 2 seater). It's not really humane to put anyone in the Porsche's rear seats, or in the DB9's for that matter. I doubt your kids would really appreciate it, as it's really quite cramped and claustrophobic back there.

Stick with a 4-door or go with a proper 2-door :)

My Colleague has a DB9 and there is no leg room to speak about!...unless, like him, your kids are 2 & 3 years old.

I am also thinking about changing mine, but I dont know of a better 4 door car. Had a few Porsche Turbos - very very fast, go for the X50 engine upgrade (not sure if it's around on the 997 though) Merc's are too dis-engaged from the actual driving.

New M3 is growing on me but I hate the interior.

Maybe a Maserati Granturismo or Granturismo S. Perhaps a Merc CLS63 AMG?

Funny you say that. Mine are 2 and 4. I'm guessing the rear seats are big enough for a couple of car seats then. I did go to AM to have a look, and the sales guy was telling me they're fine for car seats, but I might have to try for myself.

I can't really see the M3 as enough of a change from the RS4 so wouldn't consider it for that reason alone, and the M5 just doesn't really do it for me. I've never been a Merc fan to be honest so haven't even seen what's available.

I think I need to have a proper look at a 997 turbo too.

Ive just sold my 997 Turbo, and i can tell you that if its performance you are after, then this is the car.The only reason i sold mine was because of the dire, sliding market.I think i made the right decision, but when the time is right, i will be straight back in there to buy another. Not much room in the back at all,but if you are intending to put the kids in only, then thats ok.The 997 turbo is the only car i used to get out of,and think for Fs sake, that is unbelievable.I had an RS4 last year, and compared to the turbo,it just isnt there.A few companys in the UK have the ability to further transform the turbo even more, but i just dont think it needs it.I took the Turbo through Scotland in the spring, and it was just immense, one of lifes best pleasures. The mpg was 27,which is better then the 9 - 15 i used to get from the M5.I know everbody and their dog,is talking about the GT-R these days, but do not let that influence you over the 997 Turbo. When the PDK,is strong enough to stick into the Turbo, the bar will be raised again.997 Turbo?,you better believe it Paulo.Regards, SIMON. :biggrin3:

I know everyone is probably going to say "Here he goes again" but if you want 2 doors and a full four seater plus RS4 performance then how about the Cabriolet?

Seems to tick the boxes you listed.

I was originally thinking R8 and a family car but given climate regarding car ownership and the economy, a TT-RS and a family wagon might be the way I would eventually head. The RS4 is good for another 3 years yet though, nothing out there presently that give me the performance and practicality and aural pleasure.

My realistic acheivable wish list goes in no particular order;
Artega GT
997 GT3
Merc clk black series (out of my league but what a car)
Jag xkr s
Rs6 (but only if they get to below 65k sometime soon) a Daytonna grey with black optics and 20" rs4 alloys would be good if it could be done.
Rs5 if they make it with a v8 or somthing that sounds as good as the rs4 v8.
But untill i can get shut of the x5 i will make do with that and our little cooper s.
