What kind of exhaust - valved or not?

Post by lexos » Wed Aug 20, 2008 7:06 am

Hi,

I'm currently looking to replace the stock exhaust. I received already tons of information but nobody is able to tell/help me on some questions:

What about the "S" button if I'm not taking an exhaust (valved) exhaust?
What the "S" really doing? just opening the valves (I have no sport seats, I choosed the more confortable ones :D )

Is that better to have one with or without?

I'm thinking about Milltek but I heard many problems to install it....Some friends are pushing me to choose a GMG or Tubi....any ideas?

Thanks a lot for helping

BR

Vincent

The valved connects straightup to the oem vaccum pipes so when you press s it reacts in exactlt the same way as oem ie opening the valves on tick over and then opening and closing up the rev range.
Non valved you obviously have no valves to connect to.
The s button when you have the comfy seats operates the valves and is supposed to alter the throttle map but I have to say I could barely notice any difference to the throttle response in my old car.
Im sure someone will add if ive missed something out. Good luck. If you are looking at miltek a company called juntion 26 advertise on ebay and charge around 1500 for a valved non resonated fitted or offer a ash reduction if delivery/pick up only. Hope that helps.

The ‘s’ button will inflate the seats bolsters regardless of which of the two types of seat you have (I think!)

I definitely do notice a difference in throttle application dependant on whether the ‘s’ is on or not; even with my non valved milltek in place.

The other question you need to ask yourself is to res or non res

Milltek is the most popular system though it’s probably down to it being round the longest. A few new systems have appeared recently….

Must be in your mind pippyrips, I have Recaro Sports seats and the S button doesn't alter the side bolsters at all but like you I do notice a significant difference in throttle response and mapping.

agree with you it makes no difference to the recaros but it also makes no difference to the mapping if you mean the fueling map. Its purely the response to the throttle that changes and also as mentioned the exhaust valves which slightly increases power by a very small amount eg is next to impossible to feel, unless you have the valves discounnected in which case you have the little extra bit all the time!

Thanks all for all the info....So I will definitively buy a milltek resonated (in Switzerland the non-resonated is forbidden....), with valves.

When "she who must be obeyed" allows, I will definitely go for a non-resonated valved Milltek.

I want to retain the ability to be a bit quieter at times, such as when passing horses, when arriving home in the wee small hours, etc.

Just to add my voice to those saying that the Recaro Sports seats do not have side bolsters that inflate when pressing the S button.

My understanding from an Audi Tech was that it changes the throttle agression rating from around 4 to 1 and does slightly alter the FSi on the engine. But then that was an Audi Tech!

I stand corrected, I was trying to recall my mates cab as I went for the proper seats in mine :biggrin3:

According to the 2006 Audi price list I was reading last night the Recaro Sports seats on the RS4 cab do have adjusting side bolsters, but on the saloon and Avant they don't...

Er, my Saloon does has the Recaro's and they "Bolster" when I press the S Button. You can manually adjust the amount within the system setup.
Audi RS4 B7 Saloon Phantom Black Optic pack etc

Unless Audi fitted the cabrio seats to your saloon, I think you mean "buckets" (with manual adjustment, except for lumbar) and not Recaro Sports seats (with full electric adjustment).
