I was just wondering because my temperature when driving gently is approx 100 celsius but on a good hard run i've hit 119 celsius. Is this what you guys have noticed?

Mine is around 100 degrees normal driving, but I've had mine up to 130 degrees on track and hard driving in the Alps 8)

There was a thread on this same topic some time back, I get to 138 on normal roads but opening the tap a bit , talking to Audi Germany re this due to the fact that oil starts to break down at 118 to 120ºC area so we loose above 50% of the oil's capability to protect..
I am changing the oil at least once every 14days to try to keep the motor A1 while Audi decide what to do. Last I heard they were due to send an engineer to Spain to work on my car but as of now still not seen him. But we do have average air temp of above 35ºC so that wont help, but even so. I found that adding water wetter to the cooling system helped by about 5 to 8ºC and also helped the oil warm up quicker in the mornings. When I get more from Audi I will make sure you all see their reply.
Mike.

MikeD,

Have you spoken to the gurus (Guy) at Opie Oils (http://www.opieoils.co.uk) about your issues?

They're extremely knowledegable and might be able to advise you temporarily on a high temperature solution...maybe you need to move away from a multigrade oil for the summer? Something like a "60" oil except that in a V8 which revs to 8000+rpm, in theory, thats not ideal...

I don't know enough though.....

I get all my oil from them - they're about the only place I know about in the country where I can find the Titan Fuchs factory fill oil for the RS4.

Just a thought....

OK - where are you both? On a track?

Having said that, I was at 122 in traffic on Sun (after a good blast) and that was much higher than I've seen before...
