Guys,

I Have the RS4 Avant and am wanting to fit an Ipod, However have the CD Changer in the Glove box !

Audi have stated that I cannot have both wired into the MMI System.

I am looking for any help if anyone has this set up ?

Someone told me that I can connect it to the Telephone system which is not currently been used !

Any ideas most appreciated.

Half the forum have used him for this, but you might need someone different if you can't get to Manchester...

Unfortunately, from the factory, it was either the 6 CD changer or the iPod dock.

You can use something like xcarlink which will allow you to retain your CD changer and add an iPod dock, but as many will attest, the RNS-E and the iPod don't work well together.

Hence the majority of owners stick with the SD cards.

If the RS4 had MMI then it would be possible, but since the RS4 does NOT have MMI (it has the RNS-E, which stupidly displays MMI on start-up - but it ain't MMI there's no common parts at all) then it is either CD or iPod unless you use a third party product.

The other one to consider is the Dension - they do an iPod adapter with CD retention option too.

I have had an ipod interface that works really well and goes in through the TV input and gives full iPod control whilst keeping the cd changer. The only problem with it is it only works on Windoze formatted 'pods!

Craigb sorted my iPod install out! Highly recommended, especially the docking slot that goes in the glovebox. Its also worth saying that iPod is CD emulating ie no track names etc.... Perhaps the 2xSD card slots which do give track names might worth a try.

I have a factory fitted iPod dock in my B7 RS4 Avant (2007) and I want to say that IMHO it is very poor.
All the tracks appear as Track1, Track 2 up to Track 32000. This makes it unusable for me and I stick to the SD cards.

I'm about to oder the RNS-E for my 2006 RS4 and one of the main reasons is that I cannot see the song titles etc on my Symphony II radio via a dension connector, from what I read above tells me that this will still be the case?

Wow an RS4 specced without sat-nav - where did you find that? lol

This has been a topic ive tried to work out how to do for some time - I rang Audi the other day and they quoted me 199 quid for ipod to be connected and said it would come up on the screen, MMI thingy..... also 299 quid to have that monstrosity removed off the dash that supposed to hold a phone that there are no adapters for and cost another 100 quid !!! ( but dont get me sarted on that) any way with these prices in mind how does that fair with a custom refit from people like craig who I have heard mentioned?? 85quid a wheel refurb as well why im there.....

They won't - it's technically impossible, because the iPod interface connects using the CD interface, and that does NOT support text in any way, shape or form.

Yes i thought so but as I have said before I wasnt sure and again shows you what sort of crap you get from Audi which hardly promotes confidence

You could always fit a 500GB Multi-media drive (about £170) like I have, not only will you be able to see the list of music but you can also watch movies too - all on that useless RNSE which can't do anything.







You do need television fitted though to get the video signal, and then you could always fit the digital television at the same time as well.
