Flaking Door Mirror

Post by rAudiguy » Wed Jul 23, 2008 11:13 am

Cleaned the car last night and suddenly noticed small bits of silver paint all over the body work. on closer inspection the driver’s side door mirror has started flaking off...... went straight down to my dealer and in fairness there warranty chap ordered me a new one on the spot. Just wondered if it was a one off or if anyone else had experienced the same thing?

Yes, my N/S door mirror housing was replaced in March under warranty. Now it's the silver front grille that's flaking paint too, where a stone chip has worked the paint free.

I had a stone chip on my wing mirror housing. Took it to the dealer and they were not interested in replacing it. So i'm stuck with a scabby drivers wing mirror. Boo indeed.

Mirrors fine but I have had the front grille replaced under warranty due to flaking - no arguments from dealer.

Can't complain my dealer has been very good over any problems I've had! :kissmyrings:

No mirror/grille issues but my front bumper was resprayed under warranty (well they paid half the cost). This was done due to the lacquer peeling but stone chips were evident also.

Same symptoms for me. Either side at the top of the grill there are "rust" marks but I've not brought this up with the Dealer yet. I'll so so at the first service.

I had the very same happen to my front bumper but the entire bill for the respray was covered under warranty.

Saying that, i'm not happy with the finish, as the pain they used is so soft that even after 3 months & 4000 miles, the bumper is peppered with stone chips which are not relative to the distance travelled. Also their is overspray & drips on both side vents & they've even sprayed the black pipes through the vents so they're now blue.

Not a big issue so will address when i have time.

Just spotted the very same thing on my RS, will moan and winge when it goes in for its first service.

It seems these cars are prone to flaking in general. Like you 'greengoblin' I thought they were alloy. :?

Why can't they finish the alloy to a higher level and avoid all this bloody spraying - crazy!. :audibash:
