RS4 versus GTR

Post by SR71 » Mon Jul 21, 2008 1:53 pm

So the £50K GTR achieves a monster lap time round the Top Gear track last night....~6 secs faster than the B7 RS4.

Only .2 seconds slower than a Atom!

Put in context that is the same difference between the RS4 and the TT/RX8!

The V-spec will no doubt be even faster putting the car in Zonda territory...

Not needing a 4 door car I've always thought of the car as a potential competitor to the B7, in the same way that I've thought a 2nd hand 996TT was a potential competitor.

Seriously tempted to join the waiting list although I'm wondering if there would be merit in waiting for the V-spec evolution on the basis that I understand the wait list for the car is already deep into 2010?

Comments?

PS: Except for the Evo 8 FQ400 the B7 is still the fastest four door car around the track...

Was thinking exactly the same, its the only car that has made me think post RS4.... release date timing is about right for chop in date too!

I just got to get myself a test drive... is it real world, useable power, like the RS4? I hope so...

Beautiful car, and well worth £50k if you've got it, or are on the lookout for a car for £50k+, i.e. 997TT.

Apparently Stig didn't use the launch control, which would have resulted in a better lap time, and also this is the base GTR, with the Spec-V still to come!

Rumours abound that the new RS4 will be a 'super' supercharged V6

As for the GT-R, fantatsic car, but without four doors and an estate like boot it will remain a 'nice thought' for me.

I've read just as many "authoritative" stories that the B8 RS4 will remain a V8. Time will tell I guess...

Rob,

It's actually less than £60k, but in any case, have you had a look at one properly yet? I think you would be surprised at the build quality - it's a far cry from Scooby's, Evo's et al, and wouldn't be ashamed next to some so-called premium marques....

Also, what other new car can you name at this price point that can do the sort of numbers that the GT-R is turning out?

Ideally, I'd go for a 997 Turbo, but that is out of my league at nearly twice the price. (and not as quick!)

As is always the case. I'll wait until someone sees the finished article, whenever that may be.

Would you of brought your RS4 if it was made by Skoda?
