Blown away by an M5

Coming home tonight from work and found myself behind a new BMW M5. After about 2 miles the driver dropped a gear so I followed and basically I was left standing as if I was going backwards.
What awesome motors these are. I'm very disappointed that the RS4 is just not up to the mark with the big boys.
Think I'll check out the BMW garage tomorrow and test drive one of these M5's for size.

Are you a troll or a bmw fanboy on the wrong site? if your that impressed by the amazing stragiht line acceleration of a land yacht, please trade your RS4 for the M5 immediately and leave the rest of us in peace. (if you actually have an RS4)

not to sure on all the different real and fake 'M' BMW's but I had an M5 in front of me on the M3 a month or so ago and he certainly didn't pull away from me. He smoked a bit, the back end sat down I changed down a few cogs and off we went to somehere round about 3 o'clock!!! I reakon had I not had my wife sat next to me I would have got passed him!
I think you need the APS magic wand waved at your car!

Its silly to get on the RS4 board and make statements about the superiority of thus and such "other" car. The whole point of the board and this section of the forum is for people to communicate regarding our cars.
This is also not an apples to apples comparison. The M5 is a 500hp V10 and almost the same curb weight as an RS. Fully loaded its also 100K.
Posting that an M3 pulled on you would be slightly more appropriate.
Despite that power advantage, the M5 is not as "sporting" in its nature. Its like the AMG Mercs-Big, powerful and runs like a raped ape in a straight line all the way to limiter. The M5 ring taxi has massive suspension modifications to keep it safe on the track at speed.
I have no doubts an M5 will pull on me almost every day of the week. (Except in the rain) So will a Lamborghini Gallardo, a Corvette Z06, and a Porsche 911 Turbo..... Oh the horror... I guess I should trade....
wtf
/rant off
Our cars are fantastic for what they are designed to do. Go fast in any direction we throw them, and let us explore the limits of the chasis more easily than our RWD counterparts. We also enjoy one of the finest interiors on the market. At least, thats what I paid for... The RS4 is an understated swiss army knife of speed, class and value.

Are you sure about that ? I was told they keep them standard apart from brake pads.

Being in the right gear at the right time helps....
No doubt, if the M5 owner dropped a gear, you probably needed to drop 2!
Try again in the rain and report back.
I came across a AMG SL65 a few days ago....some cars you just don't even bother agitating as you know they'll kick your ass...maybe cross country I'd have a chance but in a straight line drag....604hp with 738 ftlbs of torque....
Still I can appreciate the machinery for what it is....
I have to say I'd like a Black Series Merc for a day to test drive...

i had the new m5 for 6 months before i purchased the rs4 .the rs4 is a much better all round car in my opinion and the 0-60 time is very close to call so cant really understand how he left you standing you must be quite a poor driver!!!
