I tried to fit one to a B6 company car we had at work, yes it is possible but it ment taking the center console out, cutting it and fitting a special bracket to the car to fit the armrest.
Needless to say I never bothered!!

Try looking at vagparts.com - they've been selling the parts plus a template to retrofit the centre armrest to B6 & B7 A4/S4/RS4 for more years than I can remember.

It is easily done on the B7 - have done it myself. Took 30 mins and no need to dismantle any centre trim at all.
You WILL need to cut a hole in the centre console at the back near the ashtray, but if you're reasonably careful/competent this is not difficult.
VAGparts - make sure you order one with the correct leather - i think all RS4s are nappa. About 165 quid, as opposed to the ca. 500 the dealer will charge, and it is a kit designed precisely for retrofit.

I have an armrest if you are interested its cloth not leather but I'm sure it could be recovered for a lot less than buying a new one. I don't have the bracket that fits on the car though. If you want it pm me and its yours!

I was wrong - the RECARO RS4s are Nappa, the BUCKET RS4s are Valcona.
It does matter as the texture is different - Valcona is coarser grain.

You had a choice with the Recaros - either Valcona (which doesn't have the contrast piping) or Nappa (which does)
