Updated MMI Sat Nav on B7 RS4

Post by EuroSag » Wed Jun 25, 2008 10:07 pm

I don't know if it's just me but the Sat Nav on my RS4 is probably the worst one I have had, next to my old B5 RS4 and RS6. Even the Tom Tom's used by our employees in their vans are better!. It's a late 2007 car - registered on an 08 plate, but it doesn't seem to recognise loads of roads that seem to have been around for years. Has there been any recent DVD updates? and let me guess, do I pay through the nose at my local stealers to get one?

Also, is there anyway of updating the unit so that you can actually enter the full postcode rather than fanny about with the first 5 digits only..... and then spend the next three weeks trawling through the list of street names, to find the one you want isn't listed anyway

Cheers

I've always found the Audi sat nav systems to be very good. On several occasions I've entered addresses (never has a road not been in there) only to then try under 'Special Places' and find that the destination is in there anyway. It's far better than the Porsche system!

I believe the maps are by Teleatlas and they are not that accurate. I have to say my Nav is a bit unpredictable, but no worse than the TomTom my wife uses in her car.

I find it excellent. On my recent European trip, it had all the Hotels listed, and I could enter all the stopovers for each day, which if you select shortest/fastest etc, took me on the exact planed route.

I find the knob is over sensitive (I thought getting older would have sorted that problem but that's another story) and spend a lot of time wizzing round the alphabet dial trying to select the right letter/number/list etc etc, and if the road you want isn't on the list, you've had it. Altogether overly complicated. I always keep my Garmin in the glove box just in case, which is a doddle to use.
