RS4 PRICES - WHAT SHOULD I BE PAYING REALISTICALLY

Hi,

Seen a few bargain RS4s in the autotrader at Autoquake and Morgan Cars.

Been told to stay away from the one in Morgan Cars,

Are the prices dropping on the RS4. I thought the residuals were strong but each time i look on autotrader or pistonheads there seems to be one cheaper. Have also seen a few in dealers stuck there for a long time.

Could this be because of the fuel prices or just people getting bored of them?

They seem to be good value for money at the mpment. What should be paying for a decent spec one!

You should pay as much as possible to keep our prices up. We will thank you for it afterwards.

I personally feel the days of the 45k mark are wll gone and 35k marks seeem to be more realistic.

Hmm, trying to buy one for nothing heh

SR71, put your price up by 1k for that silly remark

Joking aside, I use a Smart car during the week for work and just sold it, ordered a new one due at the end of July and using the RS during the week at the moment and i forgot about the comments that people make and it's amazing how it still turns heads...I LOVE MY CAR.

Have a look yourself, its in front of you on autotrader, i should mention these are the earlier model, unless you want to kid yourself thinking your is worth more lol!

If traders can afford to put them um for retail at that kind of prices imagine what they are paying.

I might get slated by all the rs4 owners but hey its the truth. If likes of fountain are selling 2007 models for 40k retail, imagine what they buy it for 36k?

Is ever increasing road tax, fuel and cost of living driving the rs4 prices down!

hbk,

Don't worry mate, I love my car too. No chance of me selling!

Depreciation is hardly linear so, of course, depending on what vintage you're looking at, for a car that is depreciating at ~£700/month, simplistically, the difference between a late 06 car, and a late 07 car might be...lets see....£8400? Add up the contribution of variables like mileage, spec etc etc, and lo and behold, a difference of ~£10K+ is to be expected between a high mileage early 06 car and a mint late 07 car.

Personally, if you're going to buy a performance vehicle for >£40K off Autotrader, good luck to you!

What a dealer can buy a car for is of no consequence to a private seller though.

We all know they want their £4K margin.

You're being a bit cheeky though aren't you because there is a 57 Saloon on Pistonheads which sold 16 days ago for £48K, DoctorD's car sold a month and a bit ago for £47K...

The cheapest 07 cars are ~£39K...which means a mid 07 car, maybe ~£43-45K?

It all makes sense, but, its really just supply and demand.

SHOW ME THE MONEY!

I agree, I think £35K is too cheap. Cheap as always is a false economy. £40K+ is a more realistic budget to get a better quality clean car.

Not much chance of that, open road, sun, no cops in sight. Never get bored of this car.

Just be way of the extreme cheap cars on the market.....I know tht some of them have been accidently damaged and then covered up......never the less, due to the credit crunch, and other pre recession problems arising, alot of products on the luxury market are falling down rapidly. That doesnt mean that once the market picks up, the prices will rise due to demand....as RS4 are ltd edition and the next one is not due for many years.

rs4audi, with all due respect and dont take this as an insult but unless you are a trader and trying to talk down prices you are wishful thinking. I have just sold my car, 07 saloon, the full spec is in the classifieds section, for considerably more to a dealer, I had 2 offers from traders at 39k, 1 offer from a private at 41k and another guy wanted the car, both the private buyers would of paid more but i decided for ease and security to go with a trader (an audi dealer) offer at 41k. I will say that i did get an audi dealer offer 35k. I could of sold my car 4 times over at 41k and am pretty sure had i been a bit more forceful i could of got nearer 42k. The only way these cars will depreciate is if desperate people let them go at silly prices. I was quite willing to keep my car and the main reason for selling is we have 2 cars that return less than 25mpg and i refuse to keep chucking money away in petrol.

I think you did well there mate - mine is going back into the trade next week for £41k (it's a '57 plate with 5k) and it was a struggle to get that! Fontain said they won't buy any saloons at all and I had trade bids at £37/38/39k
