Probably been done many times before but I can not seem to work the search engine correctly.
Currently running conti's no real complaints wet or dry ! Apart from the indecision in the steering under heavy braking! And I do not think that is
Tyre related, just the sheer movement of mass.
Your experiences please!
Regards
Yak
Ps had the car (avant) 6000 miles now very pleased as a road car.
pps how do I open the valves on a permanent basis?

For tyres, the masses (now including me) are raving about the Good Year Eagle F1 Assymetrical, slightly oversized at 275/35/19 XL.
They knock the socks off the OEM P Zeros & appear to be a match if not slight improvement over the benchmark Michelin PS2. The bonus is they're about £100 a corner cheaper than the Michelins

.
Try Micheldever Tyres, Blackcircles or Elitedirect for the best prices.

re the tyres can get 255 in the f1 . why do guys increase the width to 275?
obviously more tread on the tarmac, but handling??clearance?

At the time the 255 wasn't available. Would be interested to try an RS with the 255 to give a direct comparison but I’ve experienced no problems with the 275 F1.

That's interesting. I was a bit reluctant to go 275 (only for reasons of non-regulation scaredycatness) but regular size sounds promising...

All good, as in more contact with the road, fits perfect, less than 2% difference in roll out so no probs with the law, don't forget it is a BIG ask of a small contact patch when you start to do B roads and favourite roads at anything near to what the car can handle.

So now some of you RS4 owners with 275/30 96Y F1's have had their fitted for a while, how are ou getting on with them.
Just had a look at mine yesterday and the Conti 3's on mine are almost down to blocks after 14000 miles on the front, some left on rears but not much.
Would be interested to know peoples views before I take the plunge since you can get 255 Asymetrics now. I dio like the prospect of bigger grip patch and more importantly, alloy rim protection.

Mine had pirelli p zeros on from new and only needed to replace front ones initially (rear still 5mm). Was tempted with Michelin pilot sport tyres as Costco has a deal on them till 6th July (save £80 for 4 - if you buy 18" or over).
There is a thread about wheel weights too - some suppliers fit nasty super shiny ones which look a bit sh1t. I prefer the ones which match the alloy colour (sad I know)

I run both sizes on my B5 (2 sets of wheels of course) and find the 275/30 much better. More planted and stable compared to the 255/35.
The intention was to track my car with the 255's and only use the 275's for the road, however I love the way it handles with the 275 Assymetricals...

Another query, with everyone who has changed their tyres do you get your fitters to retain the same valves or have you bought new valves to attach the TPMS to?
Thus far when swapping allys over I have asked to retian the same valve, just wondered if this was best policy when changing to new rubber?

No need to change valves.
