Better for it

Just disconnected the valves - 10 mins well spent in my opinion. Adjusted the green pipe end rather than the black hose. Fuller exhaust sound which will keep me amused until I've saved enough for the milltek. Seems to pull in a cleaner way, hard to explain really but definitely better for the mod.
If you haven't you should. Alex

Did mine the other night also. Why did it take me 12 months to do this?

What's the difference between this and pressing the Sport button?

even if you press the sport button the valves aren't open all of the time but with this mod they are, can't remember the settings but sure someone will put them up!

Normally are they only open in 4,5,6 gears and only at a certain rpm and above?

copied and pasted from another thread (milltek possibly)
Non Sport mode:
exhaust flaps stay shut until 5,000k rpm in 1st, 2nd, 3rd gear.
exhaust flaps stay shut until 4,500k rpm in 4th, 5th, 6st gear.
throttle 50-60 % open till 5,500 rpm in 1st, 2nd, 3rd
throttle 100% open 0-8,250 rpm in 4th, 5th, 6th
Sport mode:
exhaust flaps open at idling 760rpm
exhaust flaps shut from 1,000k rpm until 3,700k rpm in 1st, 2nd, 3rd
exhaust flaps open ALL the time from 0-8250rpm in 4th, 5th, 6st gear.
throttle 50-60 % open till 5,500 rpm in 1st, 2nd, 3rd
throttle 100% open 0-8,250 rpm in 4th, 5th, 6th

A few days have passed since doing this simple mod. Generally, I am well chuffed, but I am now wondering if this change may effect any other part of the car. For instance when changing from 1-2-3 slowly there is quite a bit of exhaust noise during the change and the actual gear change seems to be much looser. In my last M3 I had prop shaft issues something they affectionetly called 'notching'. It may be my imagination as this is the first time I've ever faffed with the car. Be interested to here from someone that made the mod 12 months plus ago. Alex

good motronic upgraders will know how to modify it so you can have the exhsust valve management managed differently in non Sport mode and sport mode....
