So chaps, what's the verdict on the 0090?

I've just got mine back with that update and i notice two things:
(a) much more confident cold start and first 90 secs running
(b) greater urgency low down in every gear, with or without S button.

Views?

Do you know if that upgrade can be put onto any age B7 RS4. I'm getting really frustrated by my local dealer as they have just serviced mine and I asked them to put this on. They tell me my car is a new one ( May 07 ) and does not need any upgrades........ They also said that when I mentioned 0080.

cheers

I'd be interested to know the differences/improvements.

Got to say that I'm really, really disappointed with it - my car has lost all it's torque, and the 'shove' at 5000 rpm!

I'm taking back in a couple of weeks to try and get to the bottom of it...

Go to another dealer - they don't know what they are talking about.

Definitely not the sort of people to trust with your RS4...

Definately a higher tickover from cold (supposed to prevent sooting up of the plugs) and seems to pull ok in most gears but it has moved the 'kick' up from 5000rpm to 5600rpm. I preferred the lower rev range but I'll get over it.

Softail - if you haven't done so, try fixing the exhaust valves open.

Is there any way that we can find out what each software upgrade is supposed to do, as in from those who know. I would love to have a little more lower down in the rev range but if the motor was built for high rpm power then wouldn't it take more than just software to move it about??

Should be available info. I recall with my M5 their were software updates almost monthly & these included all sorts of things including fixes & enhanced/new functionality. The M5 community were always aware of what each update included.

From Audi, re the 0090 update. Of course, may be more to it than this, but this seems to be the major reason.

QUOTE This upgrade is designed to resolve problems that some customers have experienced with poor running after multiple short journeys

Unless you've got VAG-COM - a software programme plus lead - it's something that only a dealer (or Audi technician) can tell you.

Plenty of people have VAG-COM, so say where you are and I'm sure one of us can help...

ok, thanks Dom..... needs to go to the dealers anyway as buttons on my steering wheel aren't working so I'll ask them to check at the same time!!

Here's something interesting...

Bought an '07 RS4 Saloon at the end of June (this year) and told the dealer to check if it required an ECU reflash (before I took delivery) - They said that it did indeed need a reflash, to version 0090......which they told me they carried-out and logged 24H8 (which I thought was 0080) in the service book.

Anyway, I've just bought VAG-COM......upon checking the Engine Data a suffix of 0080 is included (see below):

Address 01: Engine Labels: 079-910-560-BNS1.lbl
Part No SW: 8E1 910 560 HW: 8E1 907 560
Component: 4.2L V8/4V FSI ª0080

Should I assume that it doesn't have the most up-to-date software?

Does it really need 0090?

Regards.

Lee.

As i understand it, sw0090 is only applied to cars that show problems with cold start running.

It's not so much a new software release, more a quick fix when required?

As for your car, it is running sw0080.
