Air con poor ?

Post by victor2vt » Thu May 08, 2008 5:28 pm

Anyone else think air con does not get REALLY cold ?

Car only 7 months old so shouldn't be short of gas.

Or could it ?

Havent really checked, as the weather just hasnt been right - even though the last few days have been warm, air con will be put to full test, and will let u know.

Might be worth having an aircon specialist service the system. On my previous car (won't say what), I was told that most manufacturers don't fully gas the system. Once they'd serviced and re-gassed it, it was much colder. The difference surprised me, put it that way.
Hope that might help?

Yes, I suppose if they save £10 of gas on every car they produce it will add up to a lot of money at the end of the year.

As always, it's all down to the bottom line !

Mine seems okay if you let it crank up for a few minutes. My previous M3 gave you frost bite!

I will chuck some gages on mine and see what its like and let you know. In the winter months if the AC is not run every over week or so it is quite possible to drop a little bit of refrigerant. The shaft seal on the compressor needs oil arond it to stop it leaking and the only way this happens is by the AC running. Also all flexible hoses have a leak factor to them!

Or it could be the system is undersized as audi ran out of room!!!!!!!

How long do you think you should run it in the winter months ?

Once a week/month for 15/20 minutes, who knows ??

A couple of minutes is fine just enough to get everything circulating and lubricated. I work in refrigeration and its one of the higest problems following a winter layup ( I work on yachts)

Crap! so was my previous S4. seems not to be cold enough. The problem was if the car had been standing on a very hot day for hours ( continental sun) got inside and hit the auto button nothing happened it seemed to confuse the system? the only way was to manual override
Anybody had this prob?
