Close one, very close one

Post by al'srs4 » Tue May 06, 2008 9:49 pm

Had a do with a Sierra saffire cosworth on Monday morning. Going up the M62, cruising in the fast when I noticed this cosi coming up fast. So in the true spirt of the brand and not wishing to be undertaken by a ford I resisted and then had to resisted again, bugger me this cosi was still there and closing.

By this stage I was starting to twitch, was this 20 year old motor going to wip my arse? Could I shake the bugger - no way.

What was this thing running on Nitros! probably 600+ bhp!!!

Anyway, in the end I was victorious - only because he ran out of road. But I tell you what, it makes you think - the next time you see an old cosi looking to play, make sure you give it the beans from the offset. £50k v £10k he must have been well chuffed.

There are lots of cheaper cars that can give a RS4 a run for it's money - they just lose out in a number of other areas!

I had a mk 4 cortina in beige have a go on Monday. There was a Paul Calfe look a like driving and he went round the roundabout pretty quick for an old car and it looked to be cornering quite flat. He must of had a larger engine in as it went well too.

I remember seeing a Cosworth Escort that knocked out over 500BHP on a rolling road, only problem was the owner had spent 100k + on the car to get this much power!!

Some early Sierra Cosworths have an extra large turbo fitted (so they could qualify for racing in the equivalent of the BTCC) and that can easily be fitted to later models too, so it's best to assume that any Sierra or Sapphire Cosworth could be running 500+ bhp.

I used to own a rather splendid cosworth saphire many moons ago, cost me over 3k a year to insure and then I think I only earned about 12K !! I loved it went like creased weasel sh*t. Spent a lot of time in Germany spanking ol M3's Its a very easy engine to chip and most have a number of phasess completed to them and the BHP rockets. I had mine up to 165 pretty easily back then (on the Autobhans of course officer ) one of the most fun cars ive owned. i think they were 220hp standard on a quite light chassis 4 wheel drive etc. Mid range they were rapid.
Avoiding going off topic but had a little play with the local estate agent in his C4S last night and hes newly hired help in the front seat !!! Blond bobbing up and down etc etc ha ha surfice to say ol 4 rings performed admirably and kept the fat rear wheeled bugger at bay. God Im such a kid !

I have the same trouble with an R registered Skyline that does it to me on a regular basis on the Formby Bye-Pass (Liverpool), on the way home from work, he appears from nowhere and he seems to be a bit nimbler in traffic. He used to do the same to me in my A3 3.2 and my B7 S4. One more time and he gets to take me home and put me on his mantle piece.

Well in my two days of RS4 ownership, ive claimed one victim so far. Some eejit in a Mitsubishi FTO tried to put it up to me on the motorway. He was left eating exhaust fumes, he pulled back over sheepishly in to the slow lane after that. I continued on my way in cruising speed after that

I had an M reg R33 Skyline GTR V-Spec before the RS4 and have to say it did feel quicker than the RS4. The RS4 is certainly quicker off the line though. Mine was only running 400bhp (stage 1), so there are a lot of far more powerful skylines out there. A couple of friends of mine had R34 GTR's that could leave mine standing on the motorway.

The Skyline was never a practical family car, so is hardly fair to compare to one.
