RS4 ECU recall updates

Post by bully3176 » Thu May 01, 2008 9:09 pm

Hello all, I was just wondering if anyone else on here had encountered simillar problems with running after having the first and latest ECU software updates? I had the first ECU update in Feb after I was made aware of a recall. Can I just say that before this my car ran sweet. Anyway I had the flash done and I noticed when not in Sport mode the car between 2-6000 rpm had what I can only describe as a power stutter, like bad fuel if that makes sense?
I originally thought I had a batch of pants fuel so made sure I ran on Super which I usually do anyway? This made no difference at all? I contacted Audi Technical several time son each occassion I was ignored. I then made a trip to the local Audi garage who when they had the car told me there was nothing wrong? I made the chief tech come out with me to show him what I meant? He instantly felt the power loss. After 2 or 3 x further weeks I heard nothing so I rang the garage, they told me that a brand new ECU flash had been made available to fix this problem as I was not the only RS4 owner to have had it? Great I thought! It will be fixed! Wrong, despite me asking several times at Audi if the problem had been sorted and to be told oh yes its fixed! Guess what? Quick blast home and its still doing the same!! Rang Audi they said can you bring the car back ASAP? I havent been able to yet, but was wondering if any of you guys had encountered this and if so how was it rectified or hasnt it been? I want some ammo for the dealer so that tehy will fix my car!

Thanx sorry ive probably gone on a bit but any responses would be great??

Bully,
I had a lot of problems with what appeared to be overfuelling which was making the car seem like it was stuttering (see 'poor running when hot' posts). In the end this was caused by the throttle body and intake manifold readings not being reset when the battery had been disconnected for a clutch and flywheel change. The latest ECU flash I've had is 0090 which is supposed to eradicate the mifiring when the engine is cold because the plugs have sooted up.

When I had the 0080 ECU upgrade done my car instantly turned from fun to rubbish!

After giving up with Southampton Audi and going back to Camberely Audi (where I bought the car) they diagnosed that the basic settings (i.e. the settings that the ECU learns about your driving style) needed re-setting.

After that had been done I got my "real" RS4 back. It's a fairly time consuming job, which some dealers just can't be bothered to do!

Dave,

You are absolutely right - I too use Camberley and they followed your method with my car. Reset to basic settings and ECU flash - no problems at all with my car - as full on as ever. Camberley have a good knowledge of the RS4 and even seem to be on top of DRC problems too.

I was thinking of sending mine there for the first service (and for them to check over the DRC etc, but they have just quoted me £370 for it!
Are they really THAT knowledgeable about the RS4, say in comparison to Guildford who have quoted less... I dont mind paying the premium if they are that good? Thanks.

Your're about half an hour ahead of me! Please keep me updated, as I'm in exactly the same boat, and was about to give Camberley a ring...

I buy my cars from Camberley Audi and I have them serviced at Camberley Audi - even though I live and work really near Southampton Audi.

Camberley Audi appear to have S & RS enthusiasts in the service department and they have always done a good job on my S4s and my RS4 - even though it may cost more (and it costs me an extra 4 gallons of petrol to get there and back) I have every intention of keeping on going there.

Just had a letter today from Audi, apparently my 07 RS needs a software upgrade. This is something to do with the performance apparently, so have booked it in for next week. I purchased the car in Dec, and have only done 7k so a bit worried now that they are going to start messing. Last thing I want is Bully's problem. Alex

I would never let Southampton Audi near my car, fortunately the head tech at Portsmouth Audi is a really top bloke. Anyone know if Richard Gullet is still running the show at Camberley? He sold me my Touareg when he was at Colbournes of Guilford and they were a really top dealer and their service department were second to none, Audi could learn a thing or two from them!

That's how mine felt after Southampton Audi had done the 0050 to 0080 SW upgrade - all sorted now.

Just got the 0080 to 0090 SW upgrade to look forward to... going straight to Camberley Audi this time!

Got a call today from my dealer about the SW upgrade so which is the latest upgrade they're gonna do? Is it 0090?

Is there any way I can tell what version I have without resorting to VAGcom?
