How many of you would change from your RS4 to an RS5

Post by rAudiguy » Mon Apr 28, 2008 11:33 am

As said above, I'm interested to know how many people on here would consider going from the RS4 to an RS5? I know I plan to when they finally decide what lump they're putting in it.
Current car..... hmmmmm????

Would be tempted if

a) it looked special enough, ie is as big an improvement over an S5 as the RS4 is over an S4 (substantial)
b) it had the RS4 lump or better
c) it handled properly like the RS4 rather than (allegedly) typical Audi understeerer like the S5
d) I had the £15k+ cost to change down the back of the sofa

I suspect d) is going to be the biggest showstopper as the RS4 ticks so many of my boxes and I am so happy with it, the RS5 is not going to be £15k better

Totally agree - this is the biggest stumbling block, will the RS5 be better and what's the upgrade price !! I spec'd a fairly fully loaded S5 and was stunned at the end price. Will the RS5 happen, likely, will it be a tuned N/A V8, probably not, will I be able to afford it, let's see !!!!

I guess this was more directed at the saloon driver's, I obviously understand the RS5 wouldn't be an ideal replacement for the avant. Interesting to hear peoples comments, I don't really understand the cost queries though, it's always going to be a 50k plus car with a few toys and with depreciation you'll always have to find another 15-20k to upgrade after a couple of years at least. I just hope that put a V8 with turbo's in it, although somehow I feel it will be the 5.2 V10 with a few tweaks. still can't be bad......

I would have gone for a RS5 instead of the RS4 last year if they'd be making it....I don't need 4 doors.

However, having gone with the RS4, only 500+hp and similar razor sharp handling will tempt me out of the RS4....

Turbo'ed or not....not bothered...both have their merits....

If they do this car right it will look and peform like nothing else. Im not sure whether or not I would have one. It depends on a few factors. Assuming performance and handling are equal to or better than rs4 my conditions would be;
1) Numbers being made (if retains the low volume then thats 1 box ticked)
2) Looks, If they plump out the arches and especially make the rears fit the arches properly (S5 looks awful around the rear arches)
3) Price. In reality the rs5 should be cheaper than an rs4 as 4 door equivalents tend to be be more expensive. I know this wont be the case as the rs5 would not be classed as a 2 door rs4.
4) What happens to this stupid country with regards to emmissions etc.

An RS5 would probably look better that the current RS4 - although aesthetics aren't everything. For me it depends what's under the hood and how she handles.

Oh - and also the price, could be expensive fully loaded!

Have only had my RS4 since January, loving it more every day :nogarors4: so I haven't even begun to think about what to get next but it looks like Audi are going down the diesel route in the future.
