Semi New Guy and SD card question

Post by Attranac » Sun Mar 16, 2008 12:55 pm

Hey there all, been a long time lurker on this forum, some may remember me posting back in August that I was getting my RS4 soon and all. Too make a long story short that plan was scrapped and me and my family decided to move to South Africa. I still wanted a RS4 badly and in December last year I pulled a deal through on a new black saloon.

Its an really awesome car and I absolutely love the fact that its not over the top flashy, just enough to give right people a hint of its capabilities.

This is a great forum with some very informative topics being discussed. I do, though have a question which I haven't seen mentioned here yet, or maybe I've just missed it.

I know when the RS4 was launched the RNS-E system only supported SD cards up to 2GB in size, does anybody know if a software update of the RNS-e could make it support HC SD cards of 4GB and more? Maybe theres already such a update out there?

Thanks

Regards from a South African RS4

Agreed - you can use 4GB SD cards (which is the max SD size) but not SDHC cards

There's no SW update to support SDHC cards available, or rumoured. The RNS-E is nearing the end of it's life so I don't expect there to be one either.

Thanks for the replies, its a shame that we'll be stuck with non SDHC capability. Would have been great if I could fit my music library on two 8GB cards. Here's hoping that the next RS4 will have a HDD media player :D

I'll look into getting some 4GB non HC cards then :)

Fairly certain SDHC is different from a electrical (bus) standpoint, so needs hw reader upgrade

SDHC does need different HW interface devices to SD - but the last time I posted that (on a different forum!) I got a load of abuse for being "negative" - so I didn't want to be the first to post the bad news here!!!
