Tyre choice
Hi there,
What would you say is best brand of tyres to go for, cost verus wear and grip etc... My RS4 currently has Pirelli Zero's, go for another set or is there better out there?
Cheers

PS2's are slightly more expensive than PZeros but they last MUCH longer.
I got 9000 miles out of a set of PZeros but after 9000 miles my PS2's are only just over half worn. So cost per mile the PS2's are significantly cheaper.
Grip-wise the PS2's don't have the ultimate edge of the PZeros but you won't notice that 99% of the time.
I'm going to try Goodyear Assymetrics next time, but they'll have to be prety damn good to make me not go for PS2's after that.

Tyre Choice

Since there are quite a few brands out there what is the best brand in terms of cost per miles? Been told Pzero are good however, its soft so it will wear off quick due to the baby V8 power to the tarmac. Is it true Goodyear will match the performance, and cost per miles. Vredestein seems a new player and not must advertised. It’s the cheapest but going for the cheapest would not be the best option?
Vredestein ULTRAC SESSANTA XL
Good Year EAGLE F1 ASYMMETRIC XL
Sports Contact 3 (This is what I have I do don’t recommend this. This will last for about 10 years but handling is very poor. Specially don’t know if any other RS4 owners noticed when turning say 60 degrees either left or right of the steering you can feel the tyre thread not quite right due to poor design as if the road surface is uneven).
Pirelli P ZERO ROSSO MO XL
Michelin PILOT SPORT PS 2 G1 XL
Any 0.02$ ?
Cheers

This is interesting the goodyears are looking favourite so far,in my b5 michelin ps2 were the best and certainly better than p-zeros on the b7 as i back to backed both cars when deciding on moving to a b7,I had the b7 drifting out of a roundabout on p-zeros but the b5 on ps2s wasnt letting go,what kind of mileage have you guys got out of the various tyres?
have used the ulltrac sessanta on a couple of cars....mk5 golf gti remapped and a DMS tuned E55 amg...
they are as good as anything else i've ever run for day to day use, and given they are significantly cheaper, i would use them again...
dont know how they stand up to track work, but they got the full beans at the front from the golf, and 530hp through the rear of the amg
good control in corners too....
nothing to lose by trying them i'd say, top notch stuff.

1/ Goodyear 19,000 on the F1 assymetrics on the RS4
2/ Michelin (shame about the price) 12,000 on S3
3/ Vredestein Currently on them, will let you know
4/ Falken Sold my S4 with these on, 8,000 miles and still had 6mm tread all round
5/ Pirelli 8500 miles on S4, very disappointing
6/ Continental 11500 on the RS4; crap tyre with no confidence on them wet or dry

Conti SC3s are good to start with. Murder after that. Very poor indeed for any kind of spirited driving (why would you own an RS if not for this?)
Can't wait to wear mine out - which is taking far too long for my liking.
Stock fit Pirellis, even when totally worn, are better in the dry and the wet but don't last long, 8k on mine.
