DIGI TV

Is the Audi TV package with the sat nav plus digital or analogue ? The brochure suggests it is analogue the salesperson told me it was digital. We are due to discontinue analogue reception in the South West in 2009 which will be very annoying as I thought I was buying it as digital ! The new M3 I test drove was definitely digi and I can't understand Audi fitting an analogue TV when it only has a year of use left.
Can anyone confirm whether or not it is digi or not and if there is a conversion fix available if not ?

IIRC they are analogue, but I remember my sales consultant saying that at some point they will all be digi fitted because of the switch over. You can get the digi tuner but it is pricey

Hello mate, mine had the analogue tv tuner but i had a digi unit fitted, it's not that pricey and well worth it. PM me for details.

No mate, it was Pro job, works all through the normal nav how you would expect. got it done by the same guy who fitted my tracker and the company had just fitted the 1st one to another RS4 for my dealer. Spot on mate. Good picture even up to 80mph in some areas.

If you want the guys details more than happy to PM them too you.

Cheers

To the OP - the RS4 is analogue, the newer Q7, A6 etc are now digi as will all new models.

Jim - please PM details to me too. Craigyb offered me a digi but it was in addition to the analogue and needed a separate remote so not ideal for £600

There is an Audi digital TV tuner available for Current A3's and B6/B7 A4's, and it's a direct replacement for the Analog module. The problem is your looking at £1100 for the part alone. There are after market units available, which can be controlled via the head unit, but unless your using the Audi TV antenna modules the aftermarket antenna's are very poor.

How does the picture compare to the analogue one (assume you already had this)?

Was it a straight swap of tuner boxes, and using the existing cabling and aerial?

It has 2 new Ariel’s that sit at the top of the windscreen, not really a problem. Picture is 100% better as it doesn't go all fuzzy like the analogue system when it losses signal. and of course a much better choice of channels. I'm lucky as there are only 2 spots on my way to work that I lose the picture and that only for a few minutes but generally I listen not watch sky sports news on the way to work every morning.

As far as the box goes there is a tuner hidden under the dash and that's about it. I also paid to have the motion sensor removed so I get a picture while driving. haven't yet been distracted by it either!!

Only down side with mine right now is that is only works when the engine is running although I'm having a new K bus unit fitted that will make it work in the same way that the blue tooth works. i.e. when you turn the key to acc it will come on and when you stop it will only go off once you pull the key out. this is been done next week. so any of you thinking of having this done won’t have a problem as it will a standard fitting from now.

If I can be of anymore help let me know or PM me.

cheers
