Information on Home Link Required please?

Post by P_G » Thu Jan 31, 2008 3:05 pm

Or at least I think that's what it is called?

Anyway, what I was after was whether anyone knew whether the inbuilt garage door remote unit could be retro fitted or if anyone has had this done?

Also what frequency band does it operate on? I'm getting a more secure electric roller shutter door and although they give you key fobs, it would be nice to have the in-built system.

Any advice / assistance appreciated.

Have you looked at

http://www.johnsoncontrols.co.uk/publis ... sites.html

They give all the info you'd need (I think...) including compatabilities

There's also some retrofit tips here

It sounds like the actual transmittor is already in the bumper, just needs to be hooked up to a Homelink Visor? Surely that's not right is it?

No, when fitted the transmitter is in the bumper - but if you didn't order it to be fitted at the factory the transmitter won't be there.

So is that a front bumper off job then? If so, it's getting a bit complicated to do and I'll keep the key fob.

Regarding the frequency I had a new Hormann door fitted and the frequency of the latest ones do not work with the Audi Homelink (although do work with the VW version!). I was disappointed with this but very easily fitted an additional control unit to my door (3 minute job but cost around £60) and everything now works well and is a big advance on carrying key fobs about. The web links above give the details

is there any way of calling up Audi and getting a spec list printed out of what came on your car when it rolled out of the factory, as im guessing there could be a few home links behind a few bumpers that ppl don't know about!...just an idea!

don't all the codes on the inside page of your manual relate to the options fitted to the car?

Ok so all we need now is the code decipher manual, who is the holder of such a thing?

P_G Just got your message this evening and I'll give you a ring tomorrow. From what I know the homelink sender unit is around £500 to buy from Audi, you may be able to get a cheaper but not much. You would then need the harness and the new sun visor, with the homelink buttons. So I would think your looking around £500-£600 for parts alone!

This has been posted before which should help. There is a sticker in your manual or on the car (can't remember where). Paste in the codes and it will tell you all the options that were factory fitted.

P_G,

Did you ever get your Homelink sorted?

Can you/anyone recommend a good automated garage door that will work with the system?

I've seen the Johnson's page with the list of supported garage doors, but anyone with a recommendation for a reasonably priced one before I try the alphabetical route?

Thanks.

SR-71 I didn't bother in the end as reseraching what was neede, parts were in excess of £800 including sender unti ad revised sun visor. It was that or have a remote on my keyring because it is sooo bulky and obtrusive. If money were no object I'd do it, but it is so I won't.

Put it this way, Homelink or sports cats and a remap? Tough one......

Option decoder at the following link

http://igorweb.org/equidec/

As for frequency, I suspect this is probably 433MHz, same as your car remote key fob and is a general band, used to be 418MHz in the UK but was harmonised because imported European car remotes operated on 433MHz.
